Metroid: Samus Returns - Nintendo 3DS

    • Each enemy takes several shots to kill (even when using missiles or charged beam.)
    • most enemies will flicker and make a clicking sound before attacking, by using the melee counter, the enemy will be stunned and left vulnerable to easily attack
    • but it feels like that's the new primary way to defeat all the enemies now.
    • But there are little tricky parts where a combination of skills is important, like clinging to a ledge to switch to shoot a regenerative block then falling into ball form to cling to the opposite wall, or freezing an enemy to stand on them lock your weapon switch to missiles on a regenerative block
    • enemies that eat away your precious aeon energy, which you may need for later have to kill them with rapid fire and they get annoying the more you see
    • If you pull off a successful counter, the enemy is stunned for a period, and can be dispatched readily
    • Just about every enemy in the game has an attack that, with good timing, this move is built to counter
    • The ice beam now only freezes enemies for a second if uncharged and is great for slowing enemies down to give you time to think however if your quick enough you can use it to be aggressive and shoot a missile or use the melee counter you will shatter them instantly
    • addition is the Melee Counter, which allows Samus to bash charging enemies to push them away and place them in a brief weakened state
    • helps finding itemsthe lovely background and artCons:Enemies do way too much damageannoying and painful attacksthe lighting armor is just a green glownot enough save/ammo stationsthey changed the suit againnot enough enemy varietyno scan to read on enemies, creatures and other lifeformsnot much for beam weapons or mixing like in Super or Prime
    • Nonetheless, this game is *not* easy - many enemies take out an entire energy tank or more, and bosses can take out several just with one hit - and that's on Normal difficulty
    • There's also the major new addition of the Melee counter, where most(a few don't) of the game enemies will flash before attempting to charge at you and pressing the button at the right time will give a short(3 to 5 seconds) slow downed moment of Samus using her canon to knock the enemy away for what is sometimes an instant kill attack except against the bosses
    • The mechanics are simple yet engaging, somehow they took notes on avoiding boring backtracking with nice puzzles and destroying enemies to discover secrets via scanning
    • Gameplay:plays alright tough the combat is ridiculous when you gotta remember to use your counter attack or else you'll get hit, something easy to forget when shooting works best, same for shield bashing in zeda botw, enemies are vicious and will attack at
