Metroid: Samus Returns - Nintendo 3DS

    • It's a good thing
    • The progression of weapons and abilities feels a bit fast, with the wall clinging ability of the ball coming up quickly, so things like bomb jumps seems worthless at first
    • Not that those things in and of themselves aren't amazing - it just doesn't fit the Metroid universe
    • One unavoidable, unchangeable, totally unnecessary thing
    • According to howlongtobeat.com, it should only have taken 11 hours, but I”m happy to report it took twice that (which is a good thing).
    • Greed is an ugly thing
    • There are weapons but they're unrealistic lasers canons that can shoot through surfaces, suddenly produce missiles and freeze things instantly
    • It's not even a bad thing, just different
    • Now this in itself is not a bad thing, as it is always a great thing to see games evolving and trying new things, but the mechanic is forced, heavy handed, and feels like it just takes away from Samus

    • A little challenging at times but definitely a good thing
    • With a few of the curveball bosses mentioned earlier, you are sometimes knocked off path temporally which breaks up things.
    • And as many others have said, locking content behind toys that are not meeting demands is a horrible thing to do.
    • Sound is excellent, a lot of familiarity but that is a great thing in my
    • Add enough good new things without changing the main campaign and it delivers on all fronts
    • Fighting through each area is a slog, the forced counter mechanism slows things down considerably to the point where I was just jumping over enemies since it was pointless to kill them
    • One thing worth noting I didn't see until closer to the end of the game, there is a custom waypoint feature that makes it easy to mark spots to revisit.
    • and you still have to bomb every thing to show each block icon
    • This is an optional thing, but more die-hard Metroid fans probably want to have their exploration be a bit more exciting than that
    • the most intense things that happen are a few scenes of Alien attacking alien or during melee counters with bosses they will show a sequence where Samus will grapple with them before tossing them off or jumping off
    • n’t go wrong with this game
    • If you want an example, I spent about an hour in the first area dying repeatedly before I even faced the first Metroid because I really didn't want to use the move, so I watched a video about the game to find out what I why I sucked at
