Mr. Coffee BVMC-PSTX95 10-Cup Optimal Brew Thermal Coffee Maker, Stainless Steel

    • From its flimsy brittle plastic construction to it's poorly designed teeter-tottering coffee filter funnel that never allows you to pour in the coffee grounds well
    • What I don't like is the strong, unpleasant plastic taste I got from the first dozen or so
    • I see a lot of reviewers complaining about the plastic taste or smell
    • Agree with both the strong plastic taste and the unfortunately very weak coffee brew
    • To remove the initial plastic smell/taste run a couple of pots using vinegar
    • First of all, when they packed this, there was very sticky tape used and that tape left residue that I could not remove off the plastic lid for the water reservoir and also a small smudge on the front of the coffee maker.
    • The industrial designer had a lot of fun giving what is a essentially a cheap plastic
    • The top to the water reservoir is cheap plastic and not as well designed or sturdy as the rest of the coffee maker*
    • I gave this a 4 star only because the plastic smell/taste takes too much time/water/vinegar to make better.
    • The water reservoir also is cheap / thin plastic and a little hard to hold to put back into the maker, especially if it's completely filled with waterI do like the carafe, the top of the carafe and some of the features like telling you how long it's been since the "brew" button was pushed
    • I've read the negative reviews, and have never experienced the plastic taste or smell
    • did (like other reviewers) notice a strong plastic smell on first use, after running a couple of cycles through the machine, the smell was still there, but I did not detect any taste in the coffee
    • This product would get five stars from me except for the extremely strong plastic smell coming out of the box, from all components, including the carafe
    • It doesn't taste any more like plastic than any other plastic made machine on the market (and trust me, I've tried a few!), so don't let a single bad review turn you off to it!With that said, if you're a coffee snob, you're not going to like this machine
    • The top to the water reservoir is cheap plastic and not as well designed or sturdy as the rest of the coffee maker*
    • So in the end, alternatives are taking the time to do French press with a separate water boiling kettle, or take the convenience and risk the plastic
    • Then our plastic lever broke which allows the coffee to flow through the filter and into the carafe
    • Strong plastic smell
    • When you receive yours, it will smell like plastic and the first pot you brew will taste like plastic
    • It leaks where the black plastic and stainless steel meet.
    • Some simian must have thought it was the greatest idea to attach some flimsy plastic dipsticks inside of the lid of the carafe sticking into the carafe "to indicate the amount of remaining coffee".
    • What I don't like is the strong, unpleasant plastic taste I got from the first dozen or so
    • BUT during the first week the plastic around the steam vent broke off.
    • Removable clear plastic water compartment on left side that you fill up with water so you don't have to fill up the pot and pour into an opening
    • concerns.1) Like many commented, the water reservoir did have a strong plastic smell, so I went ahead and did a vinegar cleaning before use, and two more clean water rinses.
    • I did notice a plastic-like smell right out of the box, but I cleaned the coffee maker and carafe and ran a water cycle through (as suggested in the directions), and that took care of the smell
    • Strong plastic smell
    • There is a strong plastic smell still in the thermal jug, I cleaned according to instructions with soap, water and ran 3 pots of water thru the machine prior but its still there.
    • As other reviewers have mentioned, there was a very strong plastic smell and the first pot was horrid.
    • The outside is a shiny plastic, but look good
    • a horrible plastic-y smell filled my kitchen
    • Works as you would expect, keep that java flowing!
    • Second, if I put more than 3 tablespoons of ground coffee in the reusable basket, that I had to order on its own, tons of ground coffee gets blasted everywhere in the basket and water filter, as well as coming through into the coffee.
    • I have a Keurig coffee maker and as much as I love the convenience, the cost of buying k-cups daily is expensive and the coffee is not always as strong as in a coffee maker
    • The water reservoir is easy to clean as it comes off in a single unit to carry to the sink for a good, soapy wash.
    • Does not spread the water over the grains as well as it could, but not badly either.
    • The carafe fits snug into the housing, and prevents as good as it can to prevent any heat loss for the coffee dripping into it
    • The lid of the carafe could use some revamping to make it easier to clean as I have concerns about what could grow in it over
    • Being in a caraffe it does not burn and you can even heat the coffee up in the microwave and its as good as it was when first brewed.
    • This coffee seems just as good as with our slower machine, so they must have something with their claim to have hit the right temperature for the brew to enable them to do it faster
    • weak"-- I like strong
    • So take your chances if you like b/c this seems to happen sporadically so maybe you'll get lucky.
