Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras

    • Right off the bat, I noticed that you can obtain an amazingly shallow depth-of-field
    • The two unique advantages about this lens, shallow depth of field and low light performance, are without doubt
    • I primarily bought it for concerts that I shoot, but I recently had a shoot with a model and thought I would use this lens at f/1.4 for portraits of her to 1.) get very shallow depth of field and see what the "cream machine" reviews are all about and 2.) get the skin a touch softer to avoid some post-processing.
    • In fact, if you check out the link above, you'll see that Nikon's lens actually provides a shallower depth of field, yet focal points are SHARPER at the same time!!!
    • One the things I have experienced using it wide open (i.e., f1.4) with this lens is that the shallow depth of field can be very thin and any slight movements of the subject will cause the image to lose the sharpness
    • A perfect wedding or portrait lens, focus speed is OK though not as fast as 2.8 zoom lenses
