Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras

    • I was fortunate to purchase directly from Amazon and prior to buying, rented this lens - I use for portrait sessions, and find the focus to be sharp and fast even with fast-moving younger children.
    • Accurate focus would occur about every 4-8 frames depending on the subject
    • The focus is slow so if you want to track fast moving things you will get a lot of misses
    • It is MUCH faster in focus speed performance than the Canon 85mm 1.2 L II though, which can easily be one of the slowest focusing lens I have encountered other than Nikon's 80-400mm VR
    • Focus is smooth and easy, colors bold and rich and it's sharp into all four corners
    • Since you probably will not be using for sports photos, the slightly slow focus is insignificant
    • Better technique and pre-focus is probably needed for those action shots
    • I found the older lens to be slow focusing and very loud.
    • The focus is extremely sharp, but a tad slow.
    • I was madly disappointed to have severe front-focus issues with my copy of this lens when it first arrived
    • The focus is extremely sharp, but a tad slow.
    • Thanks to the wide f/1.4 aperture, you always get a bright image, and on both my D3 and D300, focus is blindingly fast and dead-on accurate
    • Even with my inexsistant skills this lens makes pictures with its razor sharp focus and dreamy bokeh worth every penny I paid for it
    • Focus is sharp, although a little slow (see YouTube comparison with 1.4D).
    • Fast focus on my
    • Great bokeh effect with this lens, sharp focusing, and perfect for event photography.
    • The focus is very fast and quiet
    • Super fast focus, creamy bokeh, tack sharp edges even wide open
    • It did require some focus fine-tuning so don't neglect that
    • This lens is super sharp, fast focusing and renders out of focus elements (bokeh) beautifully.
    • Less positive- fairly big and heavy- fairly large minimum focus distance of 85cm (33.5 in) can sometimes get in the way of, say, a very close range portrait- fairly expensive
    • I had to go available light, and this thing saved the day! This lens focuses fast, but not as fast as the pro f/2.8 glass.
    • I would compare it more to the 85mm f/1.8D speed wise, but it is VERY accurate, which is critical when shooting with such a narrow depth of field
