The combination of my 85mm f/1.4G and D700 has a slight front-focussing problem that I can't perfectly sort with the camera's dedicated fine tune option.
-
I purchased two lenses and both consistently need 5 points of AF Fine Tune in tungsten light on both my D3 and D700
-
It did require some focus fine-tuning so don't neglect that
-
Or expect to add 5 points of AF Fine Tune when shooting under tungsten lighting and then taking those 5 points out whenever you shoot in daylight
-
Each needed between +14 and +16 AF fine tuning on both cameras, which is way too much for a brand new 'in spec' lens
-
If you are a wedding or event photographer who often goes from tungsten lit scenes to daylight scenes, you will have to constantly remember to change the AF Fine Tune
-
NPS's response to this problem was "Use the AF Fine Tune option as a countermeasure in those lighting conditions
