Mind-blowing 3000mm zoom. 4K Ultra HD video. Raw (nrw), macro, time-lapse and so much more. Imagine being able to zoom far beyond the reach of standard telephoto lenses, to capture not just the Moon, but the craters, peaks and val...
Besides the obvious new features -- like the hot shoe, ability to use an external microphone, great eye-level viewfinder, and RAW shooting -- I really like the new control ring on the lens, which is very handy for manual focusing (especially with the new switch for quickly going from auto to manual focus)
The main reasons I wanted this camera was the extra 1000 mm of zoom and the hot shoe, but the P900 just took better pictures.
I also like the ‘Hot Shoe’ that was lacking on the P900

I liked the extra bright viewfinder and how much clearer/sharper it is

The build quality is excellent, the camera is heavy and well
Bottom line: Despite my concerns about the P1000's weight and size, I've found that carrying it, framing shots quickly (motorcycle rider, for example) and shooting without a monopod/tripod produces excellent unedited image quality, at least to this amateur's eyes
No tripod, just laying on a table, so the 3000 isn't as sharp as it could/should be.)The menus are easy to navigate
If you're looking for a super close-up shot of animals or flowers, I can see it being a benefit, but it doesn't do much to help improve the picture quality of a lighthouse from 5 miles away
The concept of this camera is great, but the actual quality of this camera needs improvement.

I’ve been able to get some awesome shots of whales, birds and ocean views
i have taken some incredible shots with it.. the manual focus ring is awesome.. but i must tell you a heavy duty tripod is a must for fully zoomed shots due to the top heaviness when it is fully zoomed

Yes, the sensor is small but you don't have to degrade your images by cropping and enlarging them either
All that zoom is wasted if the images aren't satisfactory

24 mm wide angle and 3000 mm tele both produce nice images
The two deal killers for me, and the reasons I ended up sending it back, is because the AF is super inconsistent beyond 1500 mm and the image quality beyond 1500 mm degraded quite a bit.
I was scared a bit by reviews talking about large and heavy
Whenever I started zooming out, the AF failed quite a bit and I had to switch to manual focusing, and this isn't very helpful if the target moves much
