I've never owned a 3DS before, but i've always found the 3D to be a gimmick anyway

The design is surprisingly comfortable and the 2DS gives those of us who don't like the 3D the ability to play the most up to date games

If they CAN afford the extra $50, then why not give them the awesome 3D feature

As a former DS and DS Lite owner I'm glad I didn't have to buy the 3DS because I truly despise 3D

Honestly, even for the fact that it folds in half and offers a little more drop protection (for kids especially), I would spend the extra $40 or $50 bucks on the 3DS, turn off the 3D and have more piece of mind.... and all my games worked fine in the new one.

I can play DS and 3DS games on it.(I didn't care much for the 3D feature anyway because I don't like 3D
