Nintendo Selects: Super Mario 3D World

    • The worlds are beautiful in HD and have great design and gameplay elements, the soundtrack is stellar, the Miiverse integration is a fun little diversion to take a break between levels and the new concepts and powerups work really well
    • It also helps that the levels are varied and creative as those of Galaxy (though without the crippled Wii controls and forced motion elements) and, thanks to the HD and wonderful visual design, extremely beautiful.
    • The game is so well designed that you will get the most out of your time with the game, regardless of whether you're playing alone or with others
    • I've always loved the art design in Mario games
    • If your a Mario fan I definitely recommend it but if your casual and play other games to then stay away unless you want very stupid level designs that would frustrate you
    • What's awesome about all of this is that you get to choose between several equally well-designed characters to play as, and all offer unique abilities and traits
    • I know Nintendo loves to use controller motion to 'do things', but if that move was activated by a simple button-push, it would be much better design
    • However, each level features three green stars (first seen in Galaxy 2) that encourages 3-D Mario style exploration of the levels in order to collect them, and the levels are so well designed and massive, you'll enjoy every second you spend exploring them
    • Like the classic 2-D Mario games, you can't double or triple jump, which is jarring at first but ultimately makes for unique, old-school gameplay that feels new for a 3-D Mario game
