if i were to use something like this, it would prob need to be the type of unit that automatically scans for best channel - again, this is likely a perfectly good system for others, just not for me.

I have this set and the Xvive U2 also, both work great, but I prefer these over the Xvive, because I like the shape of them better, and they seem to be made more solid and sturdy, then the Xvive.

Basically had to stand right next to the amp for the best sound and was even getting quite frequent drop outs standing next to it, which makes this useless

It has a solid feel, joints are tight, no noticeable delays, no buzzing or hissing, & has a very clear & strong signal!
The cases is rugged, well constructed, very compact and the signal is strong at 20 feet tested and through multiple walls (longest distance tested)
