(OLD MODEL) Seagate Central 4TB Personal Cloud Storage NAS STCG4000100

    • It is an open system.-I can use it from my mobile phone, but is only to open that big useless device folder in my computer.-There is no manual that comes with it, I have to go into the Seagate website and muck around until I find it
    • I really really want to like this device, but
    • This device is great if you just want to use it in your house, external streaming or download is very slow
    • When it did work, it performed very well and was easily accessible by all devices as well as our smart TV
    • If anyone is looking for slow network device, I've got one at a great price.
    • I highly recommend that you place it next to your existing router(wired).A recommendation to Seagate to improve the device put a USB 3.0 wireless dongle (Ethernet) capability or truly make it wireless or wired both
    • Well, this device has failed
    • (wasn't the point of the hard reset to delete all users?", and the device is now unusable.
    • but I'll be selling the new one they send me and will not waste any more time with an unreliable device
    • This device is a definite improvement over the Go Flex but is NOT a truly wireless
    • It never seems that the device is available on the network.
    • If you are a novice and want basic storage, this device will work OK.
    • So, after a quick skim through YouTube, I cracked open the device and removed the SATA drive, voiding the warranty.
    • but when I run it it says cant find a compatible device and no settings to add any info for location
    • That would be mind blowing and set Seagate apart as an intelligent device designer instead of a run of the mill type of product.
    • The device works fine, but I cannot say that I like it
    • Will work fine as a media server and backup device however
    • The performance will be dictated by the slowest device or cabling on your network
    • : this device failed (no big surprise!
    • Excellent device
    • It is a good backup device, but so was the Go Flex Desk by Seagate
    • So, while the device seems to work reasonably well, I don't know that I trust it, after that first experience, as my sole backup device
    • So, while the device seems to work reasonably well, I don't know that I trust it, after that first experience, as my sole backup device
    • I bought this device thinking it'd be a great alternative to dropbox and Google Drive and, in the long run, cheaper too
    • have problems finding the device.
    • It's a good "cloud storage" device and performs well, but the stock firmware lacks a lot of functionality
    • So if you want a cheap, functional but limited storage device for non-critical stuff (e.g. no bank or CC accounts, etc.
    • I've updated the firmware version as well with no luck, the device is just too slow to stream videos.
    • This device is terrible!!
    • We've since accumulated a few new devices, and once connected to Wifi they all immediately gain access to everything stored on the Seagate
    • The NAS was lost to the network and I wasted 3 hours trying to get it back (every other device on my system recovered immediately)
    • Don't waste you time or money, but a reliable device.
    • It is so far glitchless, provides Gigabit Ethernet access (so the reviewer who says it does not doesn't understand his router), and runs as fast as network devices normally do, I have streamed HD video from it to network attached laptops, and that works
    • I'm hoping some future firmware version will make this an attractive backup drive into a media-friendly device...
    • Overall, these devices have worked perfectly for my needs
    • I like the device, it was easy to set up and get working on all our pc's and a couple ipads.
    • This device is not as 'intuitive as I had hoped.
    • When it works it's a great device
    • This device and its software are both absolutely, positively horrendous.
    • **** Dec 2014I purchased this drive in May 2013 and by Aug 2014 the device was failing.
    • I could not in all honesty recommend this device to anyone.
    • It's a great idea and the price tag they've put on the unit is fair (at least the initial price tag - read on). That being said - it's obvious that this device is work in progress and that it's release is rushed
    • Well, this device has failed
    • After powering back up, the device would initialize but hang at the flashing green LED phase (read up on the Seagate forum, this has happened to others as well, and Seagate has not replied)
    • For all of the trouble I should have stuck to a wired portable device
    • awesome device
    • I specifically bought this device because I work on large files at work and occasionally I want to work from home.
    • Yeah I bought the device to keep it on my coffee table and stare at the beauty of it all day instead of putting all my data in and and losing everything a year later and then pay even more money to get my data out of their faulty device
    • the device is good but, awfully slow.
    • If you only need smb (Windows) file sharing it seems like a nice device.
    • the device is good but, awfully slow.
    • I miss the Western Digital soo much :(I am now looking for a replacement to this annoying device
    • Now according to Seagate support I have a defective device and data recovery(out of pocket!!
    • This device is not ready for
    • Thinking I could save a little money over another, slightly more expensive network storage device, I made the mistake of overlooking the bad reviews of this product.
    • But beyond that it's not an intuitive device and anyone less techy(I'd rate myself on a 6.5 out of 10) would chuck this out the window.
    • I think it is a good device to use for keeping photos, videos, documents etc. that you don’t access often.
    • The device is extremely slow for upload and download, and sometimes doesn't even show up
    • Whatever the cost savings from the deal this came as was not worth the hassle of this crappy device.
    • The device is EASY to setup, but you need to find the instructions online
    • The device works perfectly on my network, but not as a standalone backup that can be directly connected to a computer for backup purposes
    • I bought the Seagate Central Personal Cloud Storage for its brand, now I understand why the device is cheap
    • It is a good device for backing up your data, but it is not fast unless you are running from a cabled device
    • Edit 1:I've now downgraded this device to one star.
    • I am returning it tomorrow and getting a real backup device like a Time Capsule
    • I use it to back up files for Mac OS X (Mavericks, although Mavericks has serious issues with networking devices and IPv6, and you manually have to create a sparsebundle file on it before it will work properly all the time as a Time Machine device on Mavericks), Linux, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT.
    • this device would be very nice, but it takes days to transfer 1GB file over a 1Gbit connection with my Mac
    • Hey, have you really tested this device before bringing it to the market? You just can't be serious.. so disappointing
    • In conclusion, the Seagate Central 2TB NAS is a decent storage device for home use, and it does a very good job serving media to a variety of devices
    • As much as I would love the idea of a wireless hard drive setup, this device makes it practically impossible to consider it
    • The device only lasted for six months before it crashed.
    • For the first 12 months the device worked okay, although the upload and access speeds reminded me of playing video games on my Commodore 64 in 1989.
    • The Seagate is a great device: backup and still accessible from any location
    • This device is perfect for a wired household
    • Overall, when you take the time to understand it, it is a nice device.
    • I really wanted to like this device
    • Once everything was set, this was the best external storage device for me
    • It's not user friendly device
    • awesome Storage device
    • This device has potential, but until the Tappin service is stable for remote access, I wouldn't recommend this for remote access to your files
