We were just looking for an easy solution for photo sharing without having copies on each computer or having to use a portable drive moving around from computer to computer

It's a good solution for laptop backups as well, eliminating the need to plug in an external HD for Time Machine, for example.

As such, there are probably better DIY solutions available that offer cost savings, performance enhancement, and better security.

I had read numerous reviews panning the upload speed, and I experienced 1.5 MB/s, which was in line with what I expected (but agonizingly slow when you're putting up digital copies of movies at 1-2GB a pop)
