There is a solution out there, but the gentle folks at Seagate refuse to divulge it

If it worked, this would be a great solution

We were just looking for an easy solution for photo sharing without having copies on each computer or having to use a portable drive moving around from computer to computer

It's a good solution for laptop backups as well, eliminating the need to plug in an external HD for Time Machine, for example.

As such, there are probably better DIY solutions available that offer cost savings, performance enhancement, and better security.

This Seagate drive is the perfect solution for our tech family.

It appears the only useable solution is to remove the hard-drive and use it in another NAS box.

For me this has been a perfect solution for everyone in the house to have access to all our digital photos

3 stars, as there are more robust and cheaper solutions available if you want to spend a little time setting them up

This is an unacceptable solution and puts all the burden on the customer and allows Seagate to skate

whereas before the best I could achieve was ~10-13mb/s and sometimes worse

I had read numerous reviews panning the upload speed, and I experienced 1.5 MB/s, which was in line with what I expected (but agonizingly slow when you're putting up digital copies of movies at 1-2GB a pop)

Unfortunately, this device is S-L-O-W, as in REALLY SLOW
