(OLD MODEL) Seagate Central 4TB Personal Cloud Storage NAS STCG4000100

    • This thing was always slow as hell for transfer speeds, but did its job as a data dump for a while
    • It'a almost as if it the MacBook doesn't instantly realise it's on the network? However, the most annoying thing is trying to save to the drive from my Mac
    • Love this thing, I have all my movies, pictures and music on it.
    • This thing is junk, has people complaining all over their forums, and Seagate has done nothing to correct or acknowledge the issues
    • , it was the drive!)An odd thing it does is create a new folder for storing thumbnail images
    • I purchased this even though I have heard not so good things about Seagate over the years.
    • Naturally, this thing loses connectivity prior to all the files being transferred
    • And, at that, maybe (maybe!) if you're using desktop PCs that never leave your network, this thing will do the trick
    • The thing is so gosh darned slow that I cannot use it as my iTunes library volume
    • The good thing is that TimeMachine will just see the network drive and add the incremental backup - which does not take long for each day
    • In the end I figured this thing is really not worth it.
    • I can say with confidence that the Seagate Central is the worst piece of electronics I've ever purchased, maybe even the worst thing I've ever purchased
    • However, this thing is absolute crap.
    • The most frustrating thing is that after creating "private" folders, there is no way to access them locally
    • Another thing they never mentioned is that the remote access app doesn't work with Windows Media Player file formats
    • On the iOS front, things get much worse
    • However, for the price, this thing delivers for novices and entusiasts alike.------------------------Blow-by-blow review below:------------------------Before I get to all the great things about it, lets set expectations
    • The two bad things are that the upload speeds are only about 40mb per second when connected directly to my computer, and that you can't piggy back another hard drive on this to add additional storage for DLNA
    • * Print-server included (although not advertised!)So the great, geeky things
    • This thing blew up, got a replacement
    • Setup worked fine, and it showed up, but the damn thing is SLOW SLOW SLOW when it comes to transferring files
    • Setup worked fine, and it showed up, but the damn thing is SLOW SLOW SLOW when it comes to transferring files
    • I purchased the drive a little over a month ago and thought things were going well, only to discover that moving even small files takes forever.
    • There's no way I'd trust this thing to safely and reliably store data.
    • However, once you log into the system to check out settings and update firmware, things can get a little confusing
    • This item has to be the most worthless thing I have ever purchased on Amazon.
    • Tried to go back to customer service to get a complimentary license since I had spent over an hour taking the thing apart (not easy) but was shut down
    • had I been able to find the answer in their knowledge base, but I did get answers within 24 hours.)The most annoying thing may have more to do with Windows than this product.
    • Mounting the drive to do the backup every time the computer is restarted was the hardest thing to figure out for this
    • I love this thing
    • Slow transfer speeds: My network isn't the fastest thing out there, but this device has EXTREMELY slow, inconsistent, transfer speeds
    • The good things (non-technical goodness)
    • The darn thing did not want to work
    • When this thing is working I've had no problems with it
    • The info is so negative I'm contemplating just ebaying the thing before I lose 100+movies and go with a mybook or something.
    • I set this thing up and it worked great for a couple of
    • When it was working, it was sweet, but overall, I can't recommend this thing.
    • I lost some info when the first one quit so only stored "non-important" things on the second one
    • This thing was also a breeze to set up to the point that I'd say that almost anyone could set this up - even your parents.
    • n’t loose on it.
    • With the first failure I lost 2plus T of data that I can not replace
