Ooma Telo Free Home Phone Service (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

    • Sure is funny that MAGIC JACK charges NO FEES OR TAXES and OOMA does.
    • The key to make ALL your existing home phones work with Ooma is to use a phone line splitter (similar to the GE 26191 duplex wall jack adapter available on Amazon) in your old wall jack.
    • First I purchased magic jack.
    • Magic Jack is highly unreliable if you read the reviews
    • They wanted me to just forget the 3 years I had not used, pay a fistful of dollars for the new type of Magic Jack, and then pay for a all new plan
    • Ooma sounds like Magic Jack

    • I have had many problems with Magic Jack, three units in two years
    • After having spent a few days researching this, I decided that the Ooma Telo had a much better reputation than Magic Jack and ordered it
    • however I decided to go with Magic Jack but the Ooma features are much better than Magic Jack but Magic Jack is cheaper over all
    • If you use internet anyway, and don't mind the upfront payment of the Telo, you should be able to cut your phone bill to a 4th probably, of what you pay now (we used to pay 30 dollars per month, vs 5.40 that we pay now in taxes with Ooma).Keep in mind that Magic Jack plus and Vonage has the same restrictions; you still need to pay taxes (altho Magic Jack Plus cost 89 dollars vs 150, and the taxes are about half of the Ooma; but on the bad side you have non existent customer service and a product that is a couple of levels inferior, so feel free to compare them and pick what fits your

    • I just wish I searched this earlier, I was just scared of being ripped of or had the quality of magic jack

    • It took me about 5 minutes to plug the Ooma in the proper jacks and use it
    • People have commented on the clarity of the calls and the other plus point is that you do not need to go through your computer like Magic Jack for example it works just like a regular phone system all in all I highly recommend this as the best internet phone out there friends that have Vonage are now moving to OOMA following my experience.
    • To test out if my ISP really was causing the problem, I unplugged my Ooma device and reset my Vonage and original Magic Jack units up and experienced excellent call quality with them
    • after having this for awhile am not at all satisfied-the crystal clear calling isn't there-works better than Magic-Jack, but call quality is not up to par with a land line-am constantly being
    • Tried magic jack and didn't like it
    • Other than these issues, calls are very clear (better than some of the lower-priced alternatives such as Magic Jack, etc that I have tested) and service has been consistent so far.
    • I've only made one call with the Magic Jack and the reception was only fair on my end
    • I've used two other digital phone services in the past and (embarrassingly) tried out the Magic Jack (what a joke)

    • If you use internet anyway, and don't mind the upfront payment of the Telo, you should be able to cut your phone bill to a 4th probably, of what you pay now (we used to pay 30 dollars per month, vs 5.40 that we pay now in taxes with Ooma).Keep in mind that Magic Jack plus and Vonage has the same restrictions; you still need to pay taxes (altho Magic Jack Plus cost 89 dollars vs 150, and the taxes are about half of the Ooma; but on the bad side you have non existent customer service and a product that is a couple of levels inferior, so feel free to compare them and pick what fits your
    • I don't have anything to really compare it to except Magic jack which I had nothing but problems with
    • I had Magic Jack before
    • This means that when internet goes down, you have no phone, but is the same if you have magic jack, vonage or other VOIP services
    • however I decided to go with Magic Jack but the Ooma features are much better than Magic Jack but Magic Jack is cheaper over all
    • Magic Jack is highly unreliable if you read the reviews

    • Another thing, Magic Jack support stinks big time
    • Larger Hardware not very portable like Magic Jack for Travel

    • With Magic Jack I sometimes had to dial a number two or three times to get a line clear enough to talk on
    • For starters: this will not give you free calls, so if you plan to spend 0, use either skype or magic jack (not the plus, since it will have the same issue of OOMA, with taxes that has to be paid; more on this later). The unit is really nice to look at, and super light; probably as heavy as your wifi router

    • It works as good as an AT&T line, and at a fraction of the cost
    • Service is every bit as good as AT&T.What's not to like?
    • Just follow the directions and it works just as easily as it is supposed to.
    • Minutes later however the set up had completed and the sound has been just as good as with my ATT service ever since
    • Worked perfectly, we called several times a week and the connection was just as clear as if we were calling across the street.
    • The calls are as clear in sound as with my traditional service.
    • Your phone will still work as it did before.
    • I don't need cancelling a service to be as painful as
    • Note I have talked on Ooma when streaming such services as Pandora or Amazon Prime Videos ... as well as when playing an Internet-connected MMORPG
    • Overall, the phone quality is very good, though not as good as C__cast.
