Ooma Telo Free Home Phone Service (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

    • ATT has the worst customer service I've ever encountered.
    • Point of the story is that their service is very good and I have enjoyed very inexpensive phone service with little work required on my part
    • I've had it for about three years, so the $200+ dollars, plus an average of $12.50 per month for useful features; my "free" service has cost me about $18/mo
    • The service is fine, no complaints, I ported my original phone number with no problem.
    • Service is getting worse and worse, static used to be my biggest issue, now it's hang ups all the time
    • I think their service is great and the unit is high quality
    • simple easy setup, great customer service, very good sound
    • The service is not really that good
    • We tried Vonage years ago and had terrible audio quality AND bad service.
    • I really hope ooma stays in business for years to come cause this service is hands down the best voip service for home users.
    • Ooma transmits the name, address, and phone number directly to emergency services operator as soon as you dial 911.
    • Great service!
    • Easy set up and great VoIP service.
    • $100 was the cheapest service they offered in my area!!!
    • We have several MagicJacks in Ecuador and they all have the same problems and intermittent good service.
    • Reading "Consumer Reports", I was impressed by the ratings and reviews that the Ooma Telo Free Home Phone Service received.
    • I like the service because it is very inexpensive
    • Good cheap phone service
    • Charter advertises it for $29.99, but on a triple play adding in Internet and Cable TV, the cost of reliable phone service is practically free and a much better alternative to Ooma
    • Crystal clear, reliable, entire house phone service for $3.92 a month !?!?!
    • we started with a free service until we realized we needed called ID and call waiting
    • I would recommend the 9.99 premium service
    • very nice and cheap phone service
    • Horrible service!
    • I also get two phone numbers, conference calling, caller I.D. with name (basic service only shows the number)
    • Our Ooma was recently installed on 9 Apr. So far, it is working as advertised, however, we are only using the basic features, so can not speak to the premier services offered.
    • In general Ooma is a good service
    • I'd recommend this unit and service to anyone interested in it.
    • We are saving almost $50 per month by using Ooma and the service is great and everything works fine and the 800 number people are so helpful and polite.
    • We are saving almost $50 per month by using Ooma and the service is great and everything works fine and the 800 number people are so helpful and polite.
    • Now, for less than half that, I get unlimited nationwide service, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voicemail and a few other things
    • Dirt cheap for such a great service
    • in taxes/fees (I'm a cheapskate so will cancel the Premier service when the free trial expires, even though I like the Premier service)
    • So if you want pure cheap deals get Obi100, if want faxes with multi phones get Obi202, if want sleek design and still good service get Ooma
    • Love, Love, Love this home phone service
    • Fairly dependable, clear service depending on cable service-modem-router combo using
    • If you are looking for inexpensive telephone service, this is it
    • Bad luck on my part as it seems to be a good service, the people are nice and try to help
    • Great service.
    • , IMO it's the phone company trying to either keep the number from being ported or punishment for dropping their crappy service and over billing practices
    • We needed to break ties with the local telephone carrier....terrible service
    • but by far the Ooma is the best service yet
    • I also get better service using the Ooma (clarity of call, no dropped calls, etc.).
    • Ooma promised free monthly service for the price of taxes
    • I love the service and the call quality but there were some early bumps in the road due to a scarcity of information.
    • To have the exact same features as the big V I would have to pay $9.99 more per month on to of my $3.71 tax which is my only monthly charge for this great service
    • Clarity is fantastic and cost (after I declined the Premiere Service and accepted the number they provided me will be 3.47 per month
    • I have had my Ooma for a couple of weeks now and the service is great.
    • Terrible customer service.
    • You really can have clear VOIP telephone service for less than $4 a month.
    • It seems the "automated" system saw our change request as "new service" and denied it due to the "service cap".
    • I have not had ONE single day since I have purchased this product in October, of decent service.
    • Hope it will revolutionize telephone service -- it should.
    • Whole service is awesome and the device is pretty good
    • The basic service is free but you do have to pay for the taxes every month (about $4 for me)
    • There is a very slight lag in voice transmission, but no worse than that with good cellular service
    • Great product/service that I would recommend to anyone.
    • So far, a great service.
    • Nice having free phone service for a change !!!
    • Just a mediocre device and poor service overall.
    • Great telephone service!I went ahead and got the paid service
    • By the way, I hope to not have to try, but it sounds like 911 service would not be a problem with OOMA.
    • See, I tried this service a couple of years ago, and was not impressed at that time
    • great service, great product
    • Works great even with a sketchy Internet service.
    • Ultimately this service did not work for us and we just cancelled it and are relying only on cell phones.
    • Kissed my old overpriced phone service goodbye!!!
    • There are some free services but then 911 isn't supported.
    • service itself is crystal clear.
    • Best customer service to deal with at OOMA, very refreshing
    • I was going to recommend the OOMA service to my friends
    • Pro: Cheap monthly service and okay quality
    • The service is crystal clear, and the volume is better
    • This took many calls and months before their polite but poor quality customer service fixed it.
    • I've had Vonage for years and enjoyed their service
    • At any rate, in the end I'm disconnecting my Ooma number, and if I want VOIP service in the future, I'm going with a generic VOIP adapter like the Obihai devices, which will allow me to pick and choose from the service providers that work for me
    • The calls sound as good as my previous digital phone service but listening to the voicemail on the Ooma itself does not sound the best
    • Had this service for 18 months and it works great.
    • In the end of the conversation he offered an annual premier service for a "one time annual fee of $20"while forgiving the prior month's $10 premier service charge
    • Awesome phone service, you only pay the taxes
    • I highly recommend the Ooma phone service.
    • You MUST have reliable internet service to use this.
    • We "LOVE" our Ooma telephone service.
    • The biggest issue I returned it was for the unreliable service, but the horrible customer service convinced me that warning others is important.
    • This is a very impressive service, organized in implementing, and really a significant cost saver!
    • For anyone complaining about call quality, they should ensure the device is either in their intranet DMZ, or establish QOS rules so the OOMA gets top service tier.
    • Even without Premier, for the "buck-and-half" entrance fee and the small tax payment per month, this service strikes me as great choice
    • I gather that the large distance may be one factor in producing the unsatisfactory service.
    • Under the contract when I signed on, I was entitled to FREE LIFETIME phone service, yes, totally free service.
    • Very, very poor customer service
    • Yes you lose service when you lose internet, but we lost phone service quite often with AT&T, and paid like $50.00 +, and we live in Silicon Valley, where you would think we could get great phone service
    • Service is always better than my local phone company.
    • Better service, less cost
    • I will definitely recommend this service to my family and friends and I have started doing so.
    • It helps to have good broadband service, which I do
    • It has seamlessly displaced the archaic dinosaur of a land line phone company from my home, providing reliable service in every room, providing for free a rich feature set that by all rights should be standard and free by now
    • I miss that feature a lot but the service is a lot cheaper than the others.
    • I live in a remote area of North Carolina where my high speed internet service is not high enough to provide trouble free service from my Ooma
    • I hope the service continues to work well.
    • so I'm not sure what cost government will ask but service is great, trouble free and I am so far happy with everything.
    • So far love the service, Phone sounds and seems to work well
    • While I'm recommending the Ooma service, there is plenty to
    • I've been using it for over 6 months now and pay only $4 each month for home phone service its ridiculous
    • and I have found this service to be 10% reliable.
    • Excellent service.
    • Oh and you get the pleasure to telling your land lined provider, who's been ripping with costly service for years, to stuff it
    • The Ooma free service is based thru our broadband and the reception and service is wonderful.
    • I returned the unit and disabled the service for 3 reasons:1) way too many lights
    • I was leery of a free phone service, yet this just works
    • Each of them loved the service
    • This was just the first step in freeing ourselves from expensive service.
    • Hard to beat free phone service (except for taxes).
    • Highly, highly recommend the Ooma service
    • It only remains to be seen how long Ooma can offer this free service
    • They push you to get the more expensive service, that is the only issue.
    • What the buyer may not be aware of, is that the terms of the "free service" can change at Ooma's whim
    • Excellent customer service
    • I can't recommend their service to my business clients at this point.
    • Great service... just BUYER BEWARE!
    • This is a great product and service
    • The company is helpful, and has lots of great services
    • Not a lot but with Ooma it's $3.78 per month and the service is just as good
    • Am enjoying the service and the price
    • only draw back is, when using several computers on the same modem box, if your streaming you will get break ups during a call.suggest faster service if possible
    • The best VOIP service available.
    • The only other annoyance is the consistent ads pushing OOma's premier phone service
    • Have been charged $19.34 monthly for a redundant service for the
    • However, I couldn't really figure out how to set-up/use some of the Premier service features, so I didn't bother
    • Service has been very good.
    • I enjoyed the premium service for the one month trial, but really found I only used the Caller ID; which is included in the basic service
    • Yes you lose service when you lose internet, but we lost phone service quite often with AT&T, and paid like $50.00 +, and we live in Silicon Valley, where you would think we could get great phone service
    • VOIPs aren't landline quality yet, but after using Ooma for over a year, we do think it is the best of those available services, and is USUALLY adequate.
    • I just plugged it into my router, instead of the recommended way of putting it between the modem and router - if you have fast, reliable Internet service that will work fine and is easier to manage on the network.
    • My two months ended yesterday, and I cancelled the auto upgrade to paid Premier (like I was planning), because of their poor service
    • It was super easy to set up, the calls are good quality, and we've never had a problem with dropped calls or lost service.
    • Pros:-- Still working after 4 yrs of usage-- Hiccup free service-- Voice
    • the end it seems to me that the service is great, and for what you pay, you will save anyway over the phone company
    • I know there are other products with good customer service
    • This is a great product and the service is spectacular.
    • So, bottom line:5-stars for the service and base unit0-stars for the handsetHighly recommend this service, but keep in mind that it will be only as good as your internet connection
    • Great service
    • The service seems to work quite consistently.
    • They said in the beginning the service was totally free, but no longer.
    • At $120 - 240 a year, this system was more expensive than some of the ones with which we may be familiar (MagicJack & Vonnage), but their features are wonderful, and they have excellent, helpful, available customer service
    • Now they are forcing us to upgrade by this month end or else face deteriorated service
    • What bothers me is that although they say the service is free, they do charge monthly fees.
    • When you are getting free phone service it is worth it to pay a little extra for a device that is really designed for clarity in mind and customer service.
    • With Ooma, it's $3.74.. and so far I have been using it for 2 months, and love the service
    • Obviously, the reliability of your VOIP phone service will only be as reliable as your internet service
    • That's when I switched the phone (keeping the internet), and that's when they were ready to give me free phone service for a year--and I politely declined because I prefer being free of sales gimmicks
    • If you want a simple connection to the outside world, this is an annoying service, filled with junk options that I have not seen since AOL
    • voice mail is rough but love the service and cost
    • They have terrible customer service, when it comes to canceling your account.
    • For less than $4.00 a month (taxes), I have clear VOIP phone service with unlimited minutes within the US.
    • Premium service effective in blocking junk calls
    • The basic service is great
    • I'm just going to pay for reliable service.
    • A free service as ituses your existing cable service, and all national calls are as free as e-mail
    • Free US long distance w/ base - Free service.
    • I'm getting clear, reliable, premium-level service for less than $4.00 per month.
    • Prompt follow up on the replacement unit, so I'm bumping up the review to 3 stars for good customer service
    • The absolute worst customer service in a consumer product EVER!!
    • and I'm saving $30 every month and getting better service.
    • Long gone are the days when I had to pay a deposit, wait for someone to come to my house and hook up a phone, call every single one of my family / friends with a new phone number, and don't even get me started on the exorbitant service charges
    • Disconnecting my home phone killed my 3rd party DSL service.
    • Awesome device and service
    • It's a great product and what's even greater is that I'm now paying $3.47 a month for unlimited domestic phone service
    • By the way, I hope to not have to try, but it sounds like 911 service would not be a problem with OOMA.
    • Crystal clear voice quality, better than landlines or cell phones, and only costs us about $4 a month for unlimited service
    • My wireless service is very strong throughout the house, but Ooma is constantly dropping my calls
    • After purchasing the equipment, I pay about $13 a month, including taxes and regulatory fees, for unlimited service on both lines.
    • Just keep in mind that this system is only as good as your internet service, some people expect miracles to happen even if they have poor internet.
    • The service is good, when I have any
    • As far as I know, you automatically are signed up for 60 days of the premier service free of charge
    • over five years.ooma:$130 up-front cost plus $3,57 per month federal and state taxes = an average of $68.84 per yearVonage:9.99/month for the first six months, then $14.95/month after that = an average of $173.83 per yearMagic Jack Plus:$39.95 + free service for first 6 months + 9.97 for next 6 months + 19.95 per month after that = an average of $27.95 per yearSo why not go with Magic Jack?1
    • Do yourself a favor and drop the cable company's overly expensive VoIP service or your local phone service and get this Ooma.
    • I'm even thinking of changing my business phone service great product tech
    • For four years we enjoyed free phone service from Google Voice using an Obihai device
    • Great product and service.
    • I recommend the premium service it comes with telemarketer blocking
    • As with any internet device, if you lose internet service, you lose your phone service
    • I like the idea that they support 911 service and that I can have the phone in a different geographical region from the area code associated with the number (and also different from my billing address).I carefully considered my options including the cable company and a couple other inexpensive (and more expensive) services
    • This product is billed as "FREE home phone service".
    • I've used Vonage for a number of years and that service performed well.
    • Add the near free monthly service fee, and that makes it a great deal.
    • The sound is clear and the service is good.
    • I cut out my expensive home phone service provided by my cable provider and switched exclusively to OOMA.
    • was so sick of my overpriced phone service.
    • but I still lost service for a few days when my number was ported
    • a star and a half for lifespan and a star and half because it still says it is "free service," which is not true.
    • However, we recently had a power loss and lost our Ooma phone service even though the cable was still operating
    • I hate this service
    • Clear and strong, as good as any telephone service I've ever had.
    • After the premier service stopped, we noticed that all calls have only numbers but no names
    • Service is great and worked flawlessly.
    • Service is great and worked flawlessly.
    • Great service.
    • This is much cheaper than the service provided by the major carriers and just as good.
    • A landline will have a consistent high quality since the technology has been around for so long, but I'm sure services like OOMA will continue to improve.
    • Great customer service.
    • You'll probably get more reliable service if you have a gigabit capable router as well
    • There is nothing in my written contract that says the "lifetime free service" becomes null and void when the device dies.
    • First few weeks I've experienced some technical issues but after that few weeks it run as good as any other phone service.
    • I'm sure the service will be fine once I start using it.
    • I finally dumped Time Warner Cable digital voice service, saving myself over $50 / month
    • Is a great VoIp phone service provider though not the best, have had for 3 years as my home phone and saved $50 per month over land line
    • As long as you have a good, stable internet service, you will get great voice quality.
    • I wasn't expecting the service to be as good of quality as it is, the quality is that which I remember from my old land line (maybe better).
    • We still like our Ooma, but it is not as reliable as the old regular phone service.
    • Poor hardware, poor service.
    • I'm not aware of this texting service from other phone companies and it comes with the basic free service.
    • I have never had any service related issues
    • I've been on Ooma for a couple of months now and the service is superb
    • AT&T always "throttled" my service.
    • The Ooma's going to the landfill (considering a new owner would probably be hit with Premier fees PLUS a $79 reconnect), soon to be replaced by something that actually has free service: an Obi202.
    • I did have Vonage which was a good service, but I was paying over $37.00 per month.
    • In conclusion if you like saving and don't mind possibly losing service if the power goes out or if your ISP goes down for a while then Ooma is a no brainer
    • First, let me express my strong dislike of AT&T and their costly charges, terrible service, and erratic billing.
    • They say service is free and maybe it is, but you still need to pay tax for some reason and that tax, in my area is under $4.00
    • But I do wish that Ooma would improve their transcription service
    • Great customer service
    • do find it amazing that people are are also writing bad reviews claiming that they thought they were getting free service but ended up having to pay the $4 monthly taxes on the service.
    • I was hesitant to switch from AT&T, which provided reliable service, but was fed up with seeing the rates creep up and the un-accomodating "we're doing you a favor" type of service.
    • The service is crystal clear
    • Excellent quality, easy set up and great customer service
    • They also have excellent customer service as I called them when I tried to set up the wireless receiver (which I will review separately) and they couldn't have been more patient and/or helpful.
    • Ooma Telo Free Home Phone Service
    • After several polite and clear requests to refund the charge and disable the premier service on my account I was finally given what I had asked for
    • A good high speed broadband service is essential
    • I was reviewing my past history orders and seen that I purchased this back in 2010 and have been enjoying free home service ever since
    • Excellent customer service
    • Great and cheap service
    • Good cheap phone service
    • Works great as a home phone in my area where there is poor cell service.
    • So as you can see, you are not really getting the free phone service, since you need to buy the Telo (about 150 USD), need to pay internet (which goes between 15 and 50 USD per month, depending from your location and service type), and taxes (about 6 USD per month)
    • I found it was the number one rated service of it's
    • Have been using Ooma with great crystal clear phone service.
    • Cant say enough how much I like the Ooma phone service
    • We have several MagicJacks in Ecuador and they all have the same problems and intermittent good service.
    • Really bad service.
    • Vonage was taking me to the cleaners and with OOMA, I get the same great service and for $3 and change a month versus the $35 I was spending with Vonage
    • After the initial purchase his service was totally free
    • We've now dumped our $47 a month phone service.
    • Great service, sound quality
    • So far I only have the free service witch is actually $3.95 a month for federal and state taxes and fees
    • The service is fine, no complaints, I ported my original phone number with no problem.
    • The model I purchased may be discontinued, but Ooma offers good equipment and great service with their long distance still today.
    • Number porting of your old number requires either a $40 fee or an annual payment of the Premier service subscription fee of $1204.
    • Great value if you have steady internet service
    • So far the service is "clear as a bell" and I do not experience any latency or time lag in conversations where you talk over each other.
    • But, the service itself has been great
    • Service is great.
    • Ooma is really good phone service.
    • This is a great value compared to competitive telephone services.
    • It is truly a great service including the customer service who I can call anytime if I am experiencing difficulty with anything.
    • (1) monthly fee is a fraction of the charge for my previous land line; (2) service has been very reliable, with no dropped calls; (3) Ooma does not seem to suffer from the time/voice delay that other Internet-based phone services have had complaints about
    • Sure, service is about $15/20 dollars cheaper than Vonage but the service is about 40-50% worse than Vonage
    • Sure your phone is dependent on your internet connection, but if you have decent service you will have crystal clear calls, no insane charges for long distance and a solution that is much cheaper in the long run than other VOIP competitors.
    • Another year later and my whole extended family now uses Ooma Free Home Telephone Service.
    • Super easy setup and flawless service
    • I can't believe how crystal clear this service is
    • Unfortunately, all of the useful premium services, such as forwarding your calls when you device is not working, multi-ring, or even email notifications that you have a voicemail, comes at a premium price
    • The service is not as easy to set up with several lines
    • I had been considering the Premier service option, but if they don't fix this problem quickly, I am changing to a competitor.
    • It's a great product and service.
    • so we pay taxes and charges of just over $5.00 per month for crystal clear service
    • I didn't rate this as 'love it' simply because Ooma's advertising doesn't explain that all the really 'nice' features and services are not part of the device purchase, but must be upgraded to use
    • Only $3.74/mo (taxes and federal fees) and the service is just as good as my $30/mo service I had from Time Warner
    • Now the bill is just under $4 a month (I declined the premium service @ an additional $10 per month)
    • The service is good, call clarity is good, setup had a few minor hick-ups but nothing major at all.
    • This service is great so far..no problems
    • However, the regular service is probably good enough for most people and that's about $5 a month for most people, as it is just to cover local franchise fees and taxes
    • The only con is that when the internet is down, you lose your phone service
    • I had Vonage for 2 years and the service was great.
    • Excellent phone service.
    • There is an additional charge for the Ooma premier service which comes with extra services (free calling to Canada, call block, free porting of number, etc.) which you may or may not need for an additional $9.99 + tax.
    • Just as good as my old Comcast telephone service.
    • It's a great phone service
    • I recommend this service to anyone who has broadband and ready to get rid of ridiculous phone bills
    • They start you out automatically with the premium service free to try for 60 days, but if you forget to go online and manually discontinue it, you will begin to be charged extra.
    • I'm sure this service is fine for some folks; but if you ever have a problem I have found there is no one you can actually talk to that can solve it for you
    • Good customer service, they have a phone number and live chat 27/7
    • NO I want to continue the FREE service
    • On the Premier service plan, you have access to a personal and a community "blacklist"
    • Okay it's not exactly free home phone service.
    • I'm glad I switched over to Ooma for a reliable and quality service
    • The result has been negligible savings and a decline in quality because service has never been reliable.
    • I didn't like all the premier services that you get a 60 day
    • This is not free service
    • Furthermore, the service is not free
    • Almost free phone service is nice, but the Ooma device is lacking in a few ways:1
    • We love our Ooma service
    • Over all, the worse customer service I have ever experienced.
    • I had so much trouble setting up a new landline with my existing phone number ported over,--I tried with 2 different local phone companies --who then wanted to charge me a lot for not-so-great service
    • so I'm not sure what cost government will ask but service is great, trouble free and I am so far happy with everything.
    • Service is very good.
    • I still needed a line for my fax machine and my home alarm system and the Ooma worked for both of those needs (supports fax and also 911 services).
    • Clark Howard tells his listeners that this is the best internet phone service, that is why I bought it.
    • Dumped Comcast VOIP service ($60 a month for awful quality
    • For $100 OOMA box and a $10 a month phone charge for taxes, you get as good a phone service as your internet connection.
    • We have AWFUL customer service with our Comcast, but to their credit, our wireless internet service has been reliable, so therefore, our service has been wonderful with Ooma.
    • We love our service so much.
    • Great service
    • If you are a bridged--not ready to cut the TELCOM cord them coma is the best value--easy to set up and select a number and backed by great chat and phone service....
    • You invest in the initial hardware and start enjoying almost free phone services for the rest of your life
    • Works perfectly, installs easy, great cusotmer service.
    • Easy set up, good customer service.
    • All in all, good phone service for a significant saving--about $26.00 per month cheaper than a landline, and more standard features to boot.
    • The service is great and customer service is very good.
    • We can not afford to have poor phone service and with this service, there has been not a single instance when we had an issue due to Ooma.
    • Love the service.
    • Call quality is good, basic service is free except for local tax and 911 fees
    • Now we can downgrade our cell phone service since we used to use it exclusively for long distance calls
    • and I think everyone else will too, I have recommended this to friends and neighbors some of which have switched already, why wouldn't you switch the savings are great the service is great.
    • We have AWFUL customer service with our Comcast, but to their credit, our wireless internet service has been reliable, so therefore, our service has been wonderful with Ooma.
    • Ooma works just as good as the Vonage service that cost about $34 a month.
