the 2nd and 3rd generations of Panasonic Blu-ray players I owned were very good and offered very fine Blu-ray performance they were still a bit glitchy, still somewhat slow to load and the upconverting DVD performance was not in the same league as this unit.

BDP 83 is the best DVD Blu ray player I've seen and now own.

If you have a quality home theater set-up it is worth spending the extra money for a Blu-Ray player like OPPO.

While few would notice the difference between a Blu-ray disc (1080 lines of vertical resolution) played on the Oppo vs. any good Blu-ray player (including the Samsung and LG players mentioned above), most/all would notice the difference with DVDs (480 lines of vertical resolution).

I have not done a comparison between the Oppo and other Blu-ray players, but the Oppo is considered one of the best at upscaling because of its Anchor Bay ABT-2010 chip, which are usually found in much more expensive Blu-ray players and other high-end AV equipment.

Remember people are forking out $499.00 when there are capable players for basic blu-ray and DVD playback available for less than $100.00 on sale.

Considering its modest price, I believe one would have to spend a great deal more money to find a superior Blu-Ray player.

if u watch a very bad bd disk then the vrs might help a bit but again, bd disk these day r pretty good, otherwise better exchange the bd disk than buying into vrs.2

Just be aware that the player, while unparalleled when it works as it should, is not immune from bizarre and distracting glitches that may piss you off.

The picture that it produces when it's hooked up to a really good, bigger TV is just plain sick ... so sick that it's addictive!!!By definition, movies rendered at 1080/24p on Blu-Ray are immersive

The HD format looks incredible (needless to say that you will need a HD TV)and the regular DVDs look almost as good as well.
