I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants excellence at a reasonable price.

Although this unit is pricey at $499, you absolutely get what you pay for, including an HDMI cord which is essential if you are looking for top quality reproduction

The unit is vented and dissipates heat well, and most importantly...the LOAD TIMES ARE INCREDIBLE

I love this unit.

In particular, the OPPO unit enhances the movie watching experience by producing "cinematic" images with great color and palpable density that one would expect in movies, and should expect from players

Well that second unit has been flawless both in performance and the peace of mind that comes to me every time I use it knowing Oppo has my back

After trying all of these to no avail, I was informed that a replacement unit would be shipped immediately and to just send back the defective unit when it arrived

The transport comes out and retracts with too much rattling noise; nothing else about this well packaged and well performing unit would lead me to expect this.

The Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player is an excellent unit.

This unit is, however, virtually flawless.

For each DVD I tested, the fast-forward and reverse modes were so slow, they were useless!!!According to Oppo, this is a limitation of the player; it's not just a defective unit

SACD is an amazing format and this unit does SACD extremely well

The unit is very user friendly

It's a little more expensive than some competing players, but probably ranks up with the high-end enthusiast units costing >$1k.

Once that's done the unit is ready for installation in your theater system.

So good is the packing that the box could probably fall off a truck and not damage the unit.

It seemed that the only complaints were that there were more expensive units with better audio/video quality.

Well the day came when the impeccably packaged unit arrived at my house and I grabbed it and unpacked with the anticipation of a five year old on Christmas morning

I realized this must be a bad unit.

As others have already mentioned, the BDP 83 is a very classy unit - from the packaging to the weightiness, appearance and operation of the unit, it exudes a level of quality that very few, if any, mass market consumer electronics possess.

Then taking it out of the box you immediately notice how well built this unit is.

But i do love my unit.

There is no better unit on the market that I have found

The unit works pretty much as advertised and OEM extras are realistically priced
