But there is a fatal design flaw here - once the water boils and it whistles, you have to touch the lever on the spout to open and pour the water out, and it’s freaking hot

Do not need to turn up the heat much to get water boiling.

My wife is on a tea kick lately and wanted that old school experience of hearing the kettle sing it’s song as the water boils within

But at any rate, at long last I've found my water boiling pot!

The handle did get a bit hot after the water boiled

The water shoots out the spout and burn the $W%$@ out of my hand.

It no longer looks nearly as nice as when I first got

but this is an e extremely poor design for a kettle.
