I saw several other reviews that mentioned this same problem, so it is probably a general design flaw and not a specific problem with just mine.
-
I like the design and the ease of use of the Good Grips Uplift.
-
I must admit it does feel comfortable and the Uplift design is a great idea, but it is not worth buying so you can eventually burn your house down because the tea kettle whistle did not go off.
-
but it sure would be nice if such a great design held up as well as it looked
-
Great looking and smart design
-
Good design and expect good durability.
-
This is by far the best design I have ever
-
I bought this kettle because I liked the modern design
-
A classic design which works faultlessly.
-
Oxo used to be synonymous with good design -- but this tea kettle should have been left on the drawing board
-
Still a mediocre design if true but the devil you
-
This teakettle has a nice pouring design (cap lifts off while your pour) but what's with the cap melting off?
-
Simple, ingenious design
-
For a company that prides itself on good (and safe) design, the failure to correct this simple problem is inexplicable
-
Great design
-
poor design with the handle in the way when your filling it from the top. expected better from Oxo
-
Very versatile, great design and works as a kettle should.
-
In retrospect, the self opening handle seems like a questionable design decision.
-
Cute design and purchased it be of so many positive reviews unfortunately for me within a

Love the contemporary design
-
Great design with no 'foo-foo'!
-
This tea kettle was well-designed and executed in every way
-
I like the sleek design and how, with a slight bit of pressure with your hand or tilt, the spout top opens with ease.
-
It is a sleek design
-
This is just all a failure to work out the basic design.
-
There's a comfy, thick handle designed to be easy on your fingers
-
Other than that, nice design.
-
I appreciate the design and the thought some good designer put into this device, it's built solid, well worth the money!
-
The uplift teakettle (I have the stainless steel two-quart variety) is designed so that when you lift the handle, the pouring spout automatically opens
-
The new one worked great, heated water quickly, whistled loudly (but not too loudly), and had a very well designed ergonomic, insulated handle.
-
It happens to be a very cool handle and functional design, but any handle will over heat and even melt if you let the flames lick up the sides of the kettle
-
The design is great and is very high quality
-
The silly design results in water dripping when you pour
-
The worst design ever!
-
I really do adore this thing and suspect I
