OXO On Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker (8710100)

    • We are fairly fussy coffee drinkers who get fresh roasted beans, grind just before use, etc.
    • I use only fresh ground whole bean coffee, I really like my coffee
    • & I prefer fresh ground beans & fresh water.
    • I actually prefer the end result better than my pour over because with freshly ground beans I get more of the chocolate/earthiness from this than the bright fruity clarity I see from my pour over
    • If you grind you own coffee beans this coffee maker is simply outstanding.
    • I only grind my beans fresh and use a burr grinder
    • But if you want the best out of this brewer you need to invest in good quality beans, yes this will cost more then the plastic packed coffee from Walmart
    • I use fresh beans ground in my burr grinder and I like my coffee fairly strong with smooth taste
    • For the concept demo, I assembled the chimeric machine described above and tested it with 24 grams of a 2:1 blend of Starbucks Colombian Supremo beans and Starbucks French Roast beans, which well-mixed beans I ground on a Cuisinart CBM-18N Programmable Conical Burr Mill coffee grinder (the good one, with solid steel burrs) at the #13 setting (1 setting coarser than the coarsest drip coffee setting)
    • I have tried it with grinding my own beans, as well as, with grounds and the coffee is amazing
    • The flavor of the coffee is wonderful even when I grind the beans the night before and use the auto on function to make a pot
    • The water is heated properly to not burn the beans, and then the base of it is not a heating pad
    • The coffee coming out of it is absolutely great, tastes like the best pour overs out there, but all you do is watch after placing in the filter and the ground beans
    • "for the best coffee grind the beans just before brewing"
    • I use fresh beans and grind right
    • Of course, all this is moot until one buys the best beans from the best roasters and orders 2-day delivery of one's custom roasted beans to grind no more than the night before
    • With a cheap and cheerful Indonesia Organic medium roast bean there was a slight bitterness with the Melitta, which in the OXO was replaced by an earthy/woody/tanniny flavor
    • especially if you use fresh ground coffee beans everyday.
    • I've been using a French press for years, but really only used it on the weekends because of the time it took to grind beans, boil water, steep and ultimately pour
    • Of course start with good beans nothing can make bad coffee good ;)
    • I'll be looking forward to getting a burr grinder and grinding my own beans very soon
    • You MUST grind your own coffee beans with a burr grinder if you want the best tasting coffee.
    • Best flavor is achieved with fresh roasted beans, (roasted within a week or two maximum), and ground right before brewing
    • If you buy good quality coffee or better yet grind your own beans you won't be disappointed
    • We preheat the carafe by putting hot water in it while we grind our beans
    • Combine it with some fresh ground beans and you're in coffee heaven in about eight minutes or so
    • I only grind my beans fresh and use a burr grinder
    • I've had using the freshly ground beans with my conical burr coffee grinder
    • Every time we grind beans with that outlet, it resets the clock on the coffee maker
    • & I prefer fresh ground beans & fresh water.
    • The coffee:Use a proper medium coarse grind and decently good quality beans, and the OXO will deliver.
    • Have been using it for three weeks and grinding my own beans to make sure things are fresh
    • I use fresh beans and grind right
    • Makes great coffee, especially if you grind your own beans
    • Our secret to great coffee is good beans (freshly ground with proper fineness at brewing time) and good water
    • I grind DD original whole bean in a little proctor silex spice grinder right before I brew
    • On the more expensive beans, Kona medium roast, its simply the breadth and clarity of the flavors from the OXO that stands out
    • It is nice looking, easy to set up, and has programmable options I do not use since I roast my own beans and will only grind it seconds before brewing
    • (I do buy good beans and grind in a burr grinder just before use.)
    • Not a feature for us, we do fresh ground beans only but, it is a nice feature if waiting 5-7 minutes for brewing is too painful.3
    • I would highly recommend this for everyone who likes to grind their own beans for a fresh, tasty cup.
    • The beans and grind I used were perfectly good when used with my V60 dripper,
    • you have to use good quality and freshly grind beans, otherwise there is no point on having this kind of machine as it does not make any
    • you have to use good quality and freshly grind beans, otherwise there is no point on having this kind of machine as it does not make any
    • I bought a batch of the super expensive beans I don't usually get, just to do the machine total justice, and it was my best coffee experience ever.
    • (I do buy good beans and grind in a burr grinder just before use.)
    • I have tried it with grinding my own beans, as well as, with grounds and the coffee is amazing
    • As excited as I was to receive something like this to review from
    • Water doesn't stay as hot in thermos as I would like.
    • At the point it completes the cycle, the coffee made by this machine is certainly as good as, if not perceptibly better than that of the Bonavita or Capresso; but the coffee keeps better in the caraffe, it pours into the cup better, and it is much less susceptible to filter handling errors that result in rivers of hot coffee running across the counters, down the cabinets, and onto the floor.
    • My only complaint is the water/condensation that stays in where you pour the water as well as under the lid it sort of gets trapped under that rubber piece which makes me worried about mildew
    • Well made, easy to assemble and disassemble as well as to clean
    • This tastes as good as, if not better than, the clever coffee method and is much faster and easier to make
    • Overall I'd highly recommend this as long as you can live with those two limitations.
    • It shows cute little water drops on the LED as it brews, and a hot cup once it's done
    • We verified the water was the proper temperature, and we simply don't know exactly WHY the coffee isn't tasting as good as it could, but we've decided to return this and go with a less expensive option
    • coffee maker works as it should, I like
