Any device I plugged into the power and the audio jack in the center console would emit a high-pitched whine when I revved the engine, which I do all the time when I am next to you at a stop light

The device removed the hum as advertised, but it also reduced the volume to only come through one side of my headphones, as if it isolated the noise to mono instead of stereo.

My guess is that this device makes the input source just a little quieter, but I'm much happier increasing the volume a little and not having the whine from the engine.

Caution - if your audio system is gain limited, this device will add additional loss - more than 3dB.

3/6/2013 - Exactly 3 years and one month later -I recently bought a Bluetooth receiver to use as a hands-free device in the car.

My mic still picks up this noise though so I may purchase a second one to clear up that device as well.

A friend recommended this PAC device, which he bought for $20 at a local car stereo store, but I bought for $13 here at Amazon

This device worked flawlessly

I had a serious engine whine problem for my blackkberry bluetooth gate for my car, but after simply plugging this handy device between my aux cable and the aux input the whining is gone!

This little device completely eliminated the quiet but annoyingly persistent whine I was hearing due to engine noise

This isolator will not fix this problem, turn off all dimmers near the component and verify the sound is clean before you hook up your Smart Phone/Device too it.
