It's a crying shame that boombox-type portable stereos like this Panasonic are getting harder and harder to find in the US

I bought it for my classroom - a simple stereo with a remote control, great for listening to music at break times and great for playing audio CD books to students, great sound.

This is a solid stereo, well built.

This does not sound as good as my proper stereo obviously, but it does sound great for the size and price

In an era of expensive stereos that need powered antennas and a dead chicken hung from your chimney, this "boombox" offers excellent reception in both AM and FM bands and it comes with a handle, Onkyo cannot say that!

At its best I'd say the sound was close to what a modern car speaker system would sound like (clear vocals, no crackle at high volume, good sound in mono as well as stereo mode, good highs and mids, no distortion, medium bass) minus being surrounded in speakers.
