The dialogue is only rarely witty and very few of the planned jokes are funny (except for Bowser's stuff); the several instances where characters break the "fourth wall" uniformly fall flat

I love how the walls of houses collapse when you step through the door, allowing you to see inside.

Goombario is replaced by Goombella (the two most useless characters in broth games) who `tattle' and headbonk, Koopa is replaced by Koops who can be thrown around in his shell, Bombette is replaced by Bobbery who can blow up walls, Bow is replaced by Vivian who can make you invisible, Parakoopa is replaced Yoshi to carry you across gaps, Sushi was replaced by the paper boat, Watt was replaced by Ms Mowz and while Flurrie is the only original character and replies on wind

Bobbery is favorite secondary character, as he can blow up the walls

The characters are literally flat like paper, and although the backgrounds appear 3-D, they, too, are supposedly made of paper (when you go into a house, the front wall falls away as though the paper was folded down).
