MDR-1A have excellent comfort and sound good enough, look much better, are a lot easier to handle due to their size and low weight, have mic for smartphone use, sound about 20% louder on any type of audio source, play bass like a quality subwoofer, but the x2 have more clarity and a lot more soundstage which is so addicting, they sound good out of the box without any eq needed

Next to Beyerdynamic's brilliant offerings the X2 is the most comfortable headphone I've ever worn

I have also the fidelio X1, which are very good, but the X2 is better

The X2's were definitely cleaner in the instrumentals and a bit more expressive in the bass.

I prefer X2 to HD650 for anything other than classical 3

I have a pair of these and a pair of Sennheiser HD 558's (with foam mod).The X2's are superior to the 558's in every way except comfort

Maybe being on pain killers heightened my senses, but I immediately thought the X2's were way too bright

The X2 plays well without needing an amp so you can even use them with a phone, iPod etc. although they will leak sound due to being open backed so are probably not ideal for outdoor use

But after a couple hours of listening, the X2 really shined and its qualities became more evident

In terms of comfort, I found that the X2 are slightly less comfortable than the HD600

In general, the X2 is easier on the ear after extended listen and the AKG is a bit more harsh...not as smooth as the X2.

The Sennheiser HD600 sound was not muted at all but refined enough to never hiss at you like the X2 did, though the HD600 are known to not be bass heavy

I don't think it's the X2's fault, it's really just me needing speakers

It was like the X2 was just a slight improvement over the HD518, with a similar frequency response

In conclusion, the energy and passion in Philips X2 make them sound more fun, like a lot of reviews said here

Top to bottom, the X2's have a very balanced sound

Well the packing my X2/27 came in said THEY WERE certified Hi Res.

The X2 simply sounds great straight out of my ipad air 2 and my iphone

The point is: the X2's rock at all volume levels!Having been disappointed by the Sennheiser HD 598 Cs (too mid focused, pathetic bass at low volumes) and the Audiotechnica M50x's (a little tight on the head, defective unit), the X2's really made me smile for the first time in a long time listening to music

The X2 just breezes past it, even better than the HD598 does

Again, I have confirmed that the X2 has much more punch to the bass and overall, a warmer music experience which is easier on the ear, especially with some of the recent pop/hip hop recordings that have not be processed with hi fidelity in mind.

The treble response is where the X2’s bring forth the biggest improvement over the X1

This still stands, although the X2 are arguably just as clear in a different, warmer way

The X2 achieved superior clarity and soundstage with a flat EQ (and honestly I think they don't need EQing at all)

The downside of this clarity is the upper midrange and lower treble of the HD600 can become a bit harsh at times, the X2 never gets harsh

In terms of the absolute level of articulation, the X2 is still soft and not quite as tight and sharp as a planar magnetic or well-designed closed back, but due to the beautiful rendition of the bass in relation to the other frequencies it’s a presentation that just screams luxury
