The device really did work right out of the box, once I went into OS X's sound settings

Make sure you don't need to access another port eg HDMI, USB or something else within a half inch of the USB port you intend to use this on as it's a bulky wide device.

All that said, I am more than happy with the purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for a cheap no-fuss device to get them through.
