They are cheap plastic, they have the on-off switch that works, and they sound just fine with a surprisingly little amount of feedback.

I can't say how the microphone actually works as we didn't plug it in or anything, but for $3.99 I think this is a steal if you're looking for a cheap prop for a play, photoshoot, etc.
