It's not the best microphone out there but it does the work

Excellent microphone.

I only messed around with it in this fashion because, being that it uses an accessory/hot shoe mount, you can easily mount it to a tripod, microphone stand, or boom pole and use a longer 1/8" stereo cable to plug it into a digital recorder.

But it's just my personal preference, I think this mic is only designed to swap out the awful onboard microphone built in DSLR cameras.

The lack of jack means the insert combined with the mount (which is really just applying pressure to "mount" to close around the case) doesn't secure the microphone.

You honestly can't go wrong with this microphone and I see no need to upgrade to a more expensive microphone

I really wanted to like this microphone, but the end result is I've just had too many issues and finally upgraded to the Rode Video Mic Pro

As much as I like this microphone, I have returned it because I usually record sound at a distance of more than 20 feet so this won't work for me.

For the Price its a good enough microphone, not for professional use, and the included Dead Kitten is really nice considering the price point, overall a good microphone and totally beats the In built camera microphone by miles.

This is one of the reasons I recommend cardioid microphones for on-camera use, they don’t have the rear lobe.
