It should definitely improve the sound from your camera microphone, especially if you are using a DSLR or Mirrorless.

When it's plugged in, there's a super loud, continuous hissing sound that simply will not go away

A good microphone at an excellent price, the quality of the materials is of good quality as well as the sound, it is small, practical and powerful, the best does not use a battery, so if you have to adjust the volume of the audio a bit the configurations of the camera since the conditions in which it is going to be used can be different if you are in external or internal environments.

As much as I like this microphone, I have returned it because I usually record sound at a distance of more than 20 feet so this won't work for me.

Clear, directional sound, and it does a great job of eliminating side and back noise.

Again, this is a nice size for an on-camera mic for things like vlogging, but if you are really serious about good sound, get an external recorder like a zoom h1 etc and a lav mic.

The only downsize here is you MUST use the cat tail provided with the kit, with no cat tail the sound is horrible
