My problem was that my MIDI instrument is a stubborn device (Digitech GNX3 Guitar multi-effects pedal board: documented to have MIDI problems, but works great for playing guitar) and my GNX3 was never detected by the Digitech software, but MS Windows XP saw the UM-ONE and said it was working properly
