The antenna is cheap.

The first problem out of the box of note was the antenna was peculiarly loose when using the radio

The retractable antenna is also a plus

But the antenna broke almost immediately after opening it up

The antenna pulled out of the radio and the metal connecting flange broke off., even though use has been minimal (once or twice a month).In the end, this radio is now just an AA-powered flashlight.

Then as I extended the antennae fully (again, very gently), the whole antennae fell out.

The antenna feels a bit flimsy and like it could break rather easily.

I have enough flashlights and charging power for my cellphone but this cheaply made antennae which feels like it will come off at any minute feels like something out of 1972

I went to radio shack and bought a better antenna in it.

I intently tried to protect antenna because I know they are usually tenuous antenna fell out after a week.

The antenna, poor to start with, is also not solidly installed and appears to have become intermittently ineffective.

Not only it can be charged with the small solar panel, but it also has the hand crank handle as well as you can add up AAA batteries for it to work
