I could lose all my data

Very useful when attempting to recover data from a dying drive, or a failing thumb drive.

Furthermore, connecting to this hub has actually managed to damage one of my drives, nearly losing me all of my most important work data, which I was very lucky to be able to salvage.

Maybe the power supply was defective, maybe something else, but, not wanting to risk losing my data and/or the way-more-expensive HDs, I have decided to junk this hub.

In an extreme case, having some drives offline could save them from data loss caused by malware, or buggy software

Confidential data on a hard drive is vulnerable to hackers whenever my computer is on, but not if it is on a flash drive that is disconnected (switched off).
