Sabrent USB 2.0/ESATA TO 3.5 Inch IDE or SATA/SATA II Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure Case with Cooling Fan (EC-UEIS7)

    • The Roswell fan is much louder than my CPU box, and my CPU box houses four fans, plus two more on my graphics card as well as three hard drives
    • I bought this to replace a failing hard drive enclosure
    • After trying a number of ways to get the case to work, I decided not to risk damaging my hard drive and returned the case to Amazon.
    • It feels very sturdy and keeps the hard drive nice and cool.
    • I'm able to plug in my old hard drives and pull what data I need, I don't have to open up the PC
    • So very important to keep hard drives cool now days, especially the newer high-speed high-capacity ones.
    • Makes good use of my extra 1 TB hard drive.
    • The drive falls off the stand at the slightest bump
    • I've tried two different sata hard drives
    • The fan is a real blessing to keep the hard drive cool
    • I will admit, it was difficult to seat the drive in the chassis, but once I got drive secure and closed it up, it worked perfectly
    • Good hard drive case.
    • Excellent hard drive case
    • It turns it off and back on, causing any video to freeze, and making a clicking noise I associate with bootup that may actually damage the drive (they're not made to "boot up" hundreds of times/day!).
    • The unit did not fit my hard drive (3 1/2 ide)
    • Excellent, Quality USB/ESATA Hard Drive Enclosure to use with 2TB Audio/Video Hard Drive to expand my DirecTV HD-DVR.
    • This external drive enclosure really came in handy for me because I had a couple of older hard drives laying around, and I sometimes find a need to look up the files they have on them.
    • The instructions have photos explaining how to install the hard drive, making the whole process a breeze, although one has to realize that, if you are installing a SATA drive, the IDE power and data cables just need to be folded out of the way.
    • When I found the external hard drive case for reasonable price I thought I'll give it a try
    • When drive is idle but spinning the case is room temperature even after hours.
    • Easy to connect hard drive
    • I fix computers on the side and find this product very handy for removing hard drives from
    • With an IDE hard drive, you remove the solid side (not the fan hole side) and insert your hard drive
    • There are two LED lights on what I call the front end: a flashing red LED at top (12-18-2013 edit: new drives are blue led only) of the unit indicating when the drive is active (it's off when the drive is inactive); and a solid blue light at the bottom indicating the power is on
    • It was pretty easy to figure out how to fit in my IDE hard drive from an older emachines pc without reading much the instructions because when you remove the hard drive from the original computer it is attached with the same 2 cables (data and power) that it attaches to in the enclosure after removing the lid on one side, I removed both to have more room to work
    • The cover does not sit correctly over my hard drive, which I'm sure is the standard 3.5 inch dimensions.
    • so be sure you know your hard drive type before buying any enclosures, just a word of advise
    • I thought it was the fan, but instead it was the hard drive
    • I was able to pull out the old IDE hard drive and recover the data using this Sabrent USB 2.0 enclosure.
    • if I need to fry and completely ruin some IDE drives, I know exactly what company I should purchase some enclosures from!
    • I was able to put the hard drive from the Imac in this enclosure and it fitperfectly
    • Some hard drives auto sense and auto select the slower speed
    • I haven't installed a hard drive yet, will do that tomorrow maybe
    • The fan is a big plus since it keeps the hard drive cool
    • If you install a SATA hard drive and plan to leave it in there for the life of the drive, then it will cost you an extra 2 to 3 minutes of time, but just one time for the life of the hard drive.
    • This is a very flexible drive case
    • Loaded the drive and hooked it up and it to the eSata port on my pc and it worked great.
    • Be aware of the position of the ribbon cable when you insert the hard drive into the case with the cable attached
    • This unit would not recognize any hard drive connected.
    • Both of these enclosures, with cooling fans, are virtually silent and keep the old IDE hard drives nice and cool.
    • I figured out how to properly mount the hard drive inside the case (with the assistance of Tech Support) everything was fine
    • (E:) mine came out of another appliance that used a hard drive so it was partitioned
    • I would suggest that you have a small "snubby nosed" pair of pliers to grip the IDE connector when you pull it off the hard drive.
    • There were minimal instructions provided with the case as I believe the manufacturer thinks it will be simple for any hard drive to fit in this case, this is not what I found
    • Instead of allowing the fan to seat properly the fan power wires were forcing a corner of the fan down to rattle against the hard drive.
    • Works on SATA and IDE hard drives
    • My hard drive was able to connect up with the enclosure fine, but I kept getting a diagnostic saying my computers (I tried using the enclosure with two different computers) detected a USB mass storage device, but nothing could be read from the drive itself
    • It was broken, I unscrewed the case to install my hard drive and one of the fans was destroyed inside
    • It holds the hard drive securely.
    • Now i have a portable hard drive
    • It is a desktop drive, not a shock resistant one, and my experience with the bearings in hard drive systems goes back to the mid 1970's and has never been positive...
    • This caused the hard drive to over heat
    • I put a 1tb internal hard drive in it, hooked it up with a sata cable and it works as fast as the as the internal hard drives.
    • Received the enclosure quickly, installed the hard drive and it would not power up.
    • easy to add hard drive to looks great and works well
    • I took it apart to insert the hard drive and it never went back together again.
    • A little hard to install hard drive as there are no real directions, but anyone who has seen the inside of a computer should be able to figure it out pretty quick
    • One of my LaCie external hard drives started miss-functioning and I discovered that the problem was the inter-phase not the HD itself
    • Even at a 75% duty cycle this enclosure keeps hard drives very cool
    • I just received my hard drive enclosure
    • You will definitely hear that drive running unlike better external drives I have.
    • Keeps the drive nice and cool
    • The drives stay cool, but after 3 days the fans make noise
    • Too late to return, so I'll transfer my two old hard drives over and probably never use it again.
    • Works great with my 3TB Hard Drive that came out of a Western Digital External that the chip board crashed on
    • The instruction manual included is very valuable in regards to getting your computer to recognize a your hard drive, especially if you're not sure your extra drive laying around has been formatted, or if it is NTSF or FAT32, or if it needs to be jumpered as a master drive or not.
    • I bought this to house a hard drive from my old desktop
    • Keeps the IDE hard drive cool
    • SATA drives work just as well.
    • It is very quite and cool to touch, even during hard drive use
    • Great way to use hard drives you may have extra, or to add a new hard drive to your system.
    • I was able to get an old IDE (ATA/100) hard drive into this pretty easily
    • very easy to use and connect to any hard drive.
    • One thing to note, the box itself says 'Supports hard drives up to 2 TB', both untrue (I'm running a 3TB WD Blue drive in there now, just fine), but also there's no mention in the listing of that potentially helpful (or harmful) piece of information.
    • For example, blue LED is for IDE hard drive activity, red for SATA drive activity
    • It took me about 10 minutes to pull the old hard drive out of the crashed Dell Dimension 4500 computer and install it in the Sabrent Hard Drive Closure.
    • But it eventually fails (2 years in my case).I change the connector to 4-pin Molex type (those used in PC and bare hard drives)
    • So far, the case is working great with my IDE hard drive
    • hard drive, not file size, in my computer and the external hard drive is 1T, yad,
    • Note: it was not my hard drive because I have purchased a new enclosure in local store and everything is just fine
    • but I have had no problems fitting any drive in this case.
    • IT is not as easy as the SATA drives but that has to do with the technology, not with the casing.
    • But, in the stock position, the fan rubs the hard drive
    • I have familiar with hard drive enclosures for a few years
    • There is no way to screw down or otherwise secure the drive.
    • The fan is quiet and keeps the drive cool, but I'm not sure it's really needed
    • I did, like some others, have to flip the fan over for it to work once the hard drive was installed
    • Well made, works perfectly, no muss, no fuss, the exact right product for using either your old hard drive or a new one
    • My existing IDE hard drive plugged in place and four screws closed the enclosure.
    • Drive stays cool.
    • My WD 3.5" SATA hard drive would not align with the connector on the Sabrent board
    • It's currently running continuously for several days as I recover some data off a corrupted drive I reformatted
    • The fan is very quiet and keeps the drive nice and cool.
    • Rescued a hard drive out of a 20+ year old computer with it.
    • It was pretty difficult to get my IDE hard drive into the enclosure
    • Removed the drive from the enclosure and put it in the system and it works fine
    • Does not work (the drive is fine since I'm using a different adapter and transferring 1.5 GB as I write this review)
    • I purchased this to mount a spare 1TB SATA hard drive to help store video.
    • I bought one of these enclosures and installed a Seagate SATA ST3500410SV 500G hard drive for use on my MOXI DVR model 3012 (the "black" fronted version), which requires an eSATA external drive.
    • Sometimes it makes a little noise like hard drives sometimes do, nothing unusual
    • In comparison, several other fanless enclosures I've used have been very warm or hot to the touch even though the drive is spinning idle
    • It is easy to take apart and install the hard drive
    • After swapping out hard drives a few times, I've discovered what might be the reason people are reporting this unit stopped working
    • I had to press the hard drive extremely hard on to the SATA connector
    • I bought this to keep an old hard drive I had on a computer and to use that said hard drive to back up my some of my media.
    • I have a kit which allows me to hook up a drive, but with no case and the drive gets hot
    • Keeping a hard drive cool is really important
    • When the new housing was opened to install the hard drive, the fan blade was found loose in the housing cavity
    • A new housing was received in 2 days and the hard drive was installed successfully
    • I downloaded my files from a 1997 hard drive with no problem
    • You install a SATA hard drive in the case & plug it in to the E-SATA connection on your computer
    • You'd think this would be such a simple product there would be no way to screw it up, but as at least two other users I see have noted, they made the enclosure just a little too small for the hard drive to actually fit into
    • Works well, and super easy to install the hard drive.
    • One of my desktop computer crashed and I had all of my documents stored in the hard drive
    • slapped a 1TB drive into it for use as an expansion unit for dvr storage and it works perfectly
    • so physical size of the hard drives shouldn't matter.
    • I've swapped out several old hard drives
    • Since the drive is left completely toolless, if you move the enclosure the hard drive can fall out of the SATA socket, meaning you have to reopen the case and reattach it.3
    • have not lost a hard drive yet.
    • It was easy to install my hard drive in to this case
    • Hard drive fits snugly in case so no risk of vibration.
    • the air should be sucked IN through the circular vent, blown on the hard drive, and escape through the front grate
    • I chose a 3 because the Hard Drive Case instructions are basically useless
    • An excellent choice for a 3.5 hard drive enclosure!
    • Some Googling taught me this, and I not only saved my beloved files, but a lot of money it would have taken to buy a new external HD.Here is something else I learned: an external hard drive is just like the kind of hard drive installed in our computers, but it has a housing which contains a power supply and USB (other other) connection device
    • As it turns out, this case is actually not large enough for a standard (3.5 inch) internal hard drive.
    • Hard drive fit
    • and I decided to keep that drive in the unit after I a quick reformat and use it as an additional external hard drive
    • Fan could be quieter (but it is not loud, hard drive activity is louder) and blue LED is really bright.
    • What's In The Box:User Manual (fairly useless)Hard Drive EnclosureStandUSB cablePower adapterHard
    • , now I have another external hard drive
    • It is a good way to salvage some use out of old hard drives out of damaged or obsolete computers.
    • I did find that one of the screws that holds the front bezel in place stuck into the area where the hard drive sits and prevented the drive from sitting down in the enclosure properly
    • instead I have to shutdown the PC before I unplug the external hard drive
    • I took it apart and went back to having the loose-but-usable drive sitting on my desk
    • Coolest effect is to blowing air onto the hard drive (I tried both)
    • Make easy transfer of old hard drives
    • The only problem is they protrude into the holding compartment for the hard drive by 1/16 or even 1/32 of an inch
    • I purchased two of these enclosures for use with WD 1TB Caviar Black (7200 rpm) 3.5 inch hard drives
    • 2 of this have connected to tl-wdr4300 without any problem and the third on is connected to smamsung tv also without any problem. not quiet enough but there is always choice to have quiet hard drive enclosure or have long live hdd, because my hdd-s in this case is always cool
    • I already own 4 Sabrent USB Hard Drive Enclosures with the same stock number as the one I received from Amazon.
    • Before I installed a hard drive, I reversed the fan as mentioned in some other reviews
    • However, if the drive is corrupted with the usb connection, the esata connection will not fix the drive.
    • My hard drive easily droped in in less than ten minutes and was up and running as soon as I powered up.
    • The instructions say to unscrew only one side/panel (the side without the fan), but it is next to impossible to line up the SATA connectors on the hard drive to the enclosure connectors unless you actually unscrew the other side so you can properly guide and seat the hard drive.
    • The fan is extremely quiet, much more quiet than my old Thermaltake external hard drive case...hopefully, this case will last as long as that one
    • Until I did this step, the hard drive would not connect to the SATA adapter.
    • Easy to install the hard drive and easy to set up
    • I wouldn't buy this case again, unless this is one of the few defective cases and can get a replacement, because like I said, I bought it for the fan to keep the drive cool since its on 24/7, and now that particular part fails me...
    • The instructions that came with it were absolutely worthless: "1. open the retail package and remove the Hard Drive Enclosure
    • An older Western Digital case died, but the hard drive was OK
    • Desktop hard drives last a long
    • This is a pretty cool enclosure for a hard drive
    • You don't have to be bogged down to buying pre-built external hard drives that fail fast making you lose your data
    • Heat is the big enemy of hard drives, and if you ever run one sitting on your table you will understand why active heat removal is essential
    • Make sure you know there are several ways to connect the hard drive to the connectors inside the case
    • It drowns out my desktop and my laptop, and doesn't spin down when the hard drive does
    • I tried it with a SATA I and a SATA II hard drive.
    • I am very impressed with how quiet the drive is
    • I had two old IDE hard drives that I needed to pull from past computers that had failed.
    • All the other users must be using this as a USB drive, which makes me mad, as these folks also mislead me into thinking this was a good drive enclosure.
    • Both enclosures had 2tb or less capacity hard drives in them and began to get drive disconnects, even on low usage, on both devices
    • I put a 500Gig PATA drive in mine, works like a charm
    • This case is one of the few, if not the only, truly all aluminum external hard drive cases I could find
    • but if you aren't careful when removing and replacing the hard drive cover the screws can easily be stripped
    • Eazy to install a hard drive
    • This hard drive enclosure is a perfect fit for what I needed
    • The space was a bit tight trying to get the hard drive to rest in the case once the cables were connected, but it was expected and in the end everything fits.
    • Bought this because hard drive would freeze up sometimes, so thought maybe it was getting too hot
    • Easy to connect hard drives
    • perfect use for old hard drive, once old PC data was
    • For the new, version 2, can do the same too: powered by 12V directly from PC (applicable only on desktop PC).Additional info on SATA speed problem:Not all SATA hard drives work correctly in eSATA on highest speed (due to interference and long cable). You maybe required to correctly set the jumper on hard drive for proper speed
    • I had an old WD 500GB IDE hard drive with windows XP on it.
    • Very easy to install, it comes with all what you need, light for transport safe the hard drive, I will recommend it 100%
    • Once I got all the screws to open (last one was tough because screw did not want to turn), you connect all the cords just like in the computer, connect the USB port to the computer, and drive is accessible as an external hard drive.
    • still keep the IDE cables intact for future use or IDE hard drive and keep the SATA cable intact for future use.
    • There is a red activity light to show when the hard drive is being accessed/scanned/processing, but it's hard to see if you're at the wrong
    • I wanted to get old files off an old hard drive
    • (The drive itself was fine
    • I thought hard drive failed, but, just not getting enough power.
    • I had two older hard drives one IDE, one SATA.
    • I will buy a large capacity hard drive, to use as an extra, external hard drive
    • was very helpful undependable and removing data from old hard drives
    • I had 4 saved, older, hard drives to check out.
    • A little difficult to install the hard drive but functions well
    • defective cannot communicate with hard drive at all plus the internal cooling fan was loose and rattling around inside of the box
    • Not being very tech savvy, it was easy to put my hard drive in and really easy to use
    • Inserting the hard drive was a real pain
    • Not being very tech savvy, it was easy to put my hard drive in and really easy to use
    • This is my fault - I guess I had assumed since USB2 doesn't really make sense for hard drives in this day in age.
    • it has a fan to keep the drive cool as well. great product.
    • easy to put your hard drive inside 5 min.
    • I bought this to replace an external hard drive enclosure that died while the hard drive in the enclosure lived on.
    • I had turned the fan around before, but it was in the way, and the hard drive wouldn't fit
    • I first purchased two [2] Sabrent model EC-3US35, external hard drive enclosures with USB 3.0
    • I got this because I need a 2nd hard drive but no room
    • I couldn't figure out how to get to the side screws at first but found you have to take the little side panels off to get the side screws on the hard drive
    • It was extremely simple to hook up my hard drive, and my computer recognized it immediately when I connected it
    • Great item and saved a hard drive that had a broken housing!
    • I run only very little and now does not work, does not recognize any hard drive, now I have a lot of information trapped in IDE hard drives, buy this device but only two months worked ... now does not work
    • Next was getting my older 250GB HD to be recognized as a drive letter like
    • It keeps the drive reasonably cool although I don't run it more than a couple hours a day at most.
    • They have no provision to keep the hard drive cool, making it die of heat if left running, or only usable for short periods
    • I've only had the enclosure for about 6 weeks now, but i have transferred all my files, music, and movies to the hard drive i installed in it and have had no trouble with it
    • Just blame the drive
    • Used this to clone an IDE hard drive and it worked great
    • I purchased this item to use it for a spare hard drive I have that I wanted to use for my son's Wii U as extra storage
    • This item killed my hard drive in about 3 months.
    • Once I got all the screws to open (last one was tough because screw did not want to turn), you connect all the cords just like in the computer, connect the USB port to the computer, and drive is accessible as an external hard drive.
    • i had to take out of its case, but it works well with the hard drive i pulled out of an old computer
    • Unfortunately, the only way to install one of the more modern and likely way more popular SATA drives is to flip it on its back (with electronics pointing upwards, once you put the enclosure fan-side up)
    • Well, the instructions aren't very clear but you have to pretty much take off all outer items in order to get in there and screw a hard drive in place
    • There aren't any instructions but it is pretty simple to take apart and install the hard drive.
    • I'm certain that this enclosure is not the best quality that money can buy, but it's everything that I needed to house a 1 Tb hard drive that I use once every three months for backup.
    • The end of the power connector that is connected to my hard drive is now pushing against the PCB.
    • My hard drive fit well
    • This case looks like the Rosewill but this one is more cheaply made and it doesn't come with an eSATA cable but it supports both IDE and SATA drives and it works.
    • The enclosure seems sturdy, comes with a fan (and I was under the impression that fans work better by blowing out rather than blowing in - one reviewer reversed his fan so it would blow onto the hard drive), I did take care to position any wires so they didn't get pinched, but that is not a shortcoming of the enclosure
    • Bought this enclosure to retrieve info on a IDE Hard Drive and to use with a Western Digital 500gb SATA blue drive
    • Simple to put together much better than my old one the WD Green 1TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5-inch, SATA fit in perfectly!
    • BUT sooner or later (usually sooner), the drive loses connection and comes back a second later...the result is that the movie stops and I have to re-start from the beginning and find where I was.
    • TO 3.5 Inch IDE or SATA/SATA II Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure Case with Cooling Fan (EC-UEIS7)
    • It's super easy to stick the hard drive into it and plug and play.
    • Only worked as USB2 Drive at 20MB rate for me and had mechanical HD connector issues also
    • This is a problem with that particular drive itself, all my other drives stayed very cool with this enclosure
    • After a couple of weeks of 24/7 operation the enclosure and hard drive is still working great, and having the cooling fan is a big plus.
    • Seems to keep my hard drive relatively cool compared to my last case (which didn't have a fan)
    • I gave it a four star rating because of needing to take half of the casing off to install the hard drive and the fact that the enclosure needs to be just a little bigger for the IDE drives.
    • This drive performs admirably via eSATA on a modern drive
    • Turned an old HD from a dead PC into a handy spare drive.
    • Easy to install the hard drive and easy to set up
    • I like that it has a fan although it still runs a couple degrees warmer than the internal hard drive of the computer I attached it to
    • They do go into the sides of the hard drive, but there is nothing in the instructions on how to remove the edges of the enclosure to install them
    • so I could use it as an external hard drive.
    • 2 of this have connected to tl-wdr4300 without any problem and the third on is connected to smamsung tv also without any problem. not quiet enough but there is always choice to have quiet hard drive enclosure or have long live hdd, because my hdd-s in this case is always cool
    • Easy installation of hard drive.
    • Works as promise, had no problems inserting my drive and the fan is silent.
    • In comparison to another hard drive enclosure that I have for a laptop hard drive that is just a basic enclosure this one seems more deluxe with the fan and the more sturdy casing
    • I still have the other one but not sure if I want to risk another hard drive.
    • Supports both SATA and IDE drives, easy to insert the drive into and works like a charm.
    • Nice drive box but needs a shim to keep 3.5" drive in place.
    • Make sure you set your hard drive pins to the Master position, my previous equipment required them to be in the Slave position.
    • none of the other MSBS, just like an internal drive in a hard drive bay
    • It took less than five minutes to install my hard drive in this enclosure and have it running.
    • I currently have 10 external hard drives (not counting these two I recently purchased) ,as well as the 5 mounted inside the computer
    • Install was easier that I anticipated and my old P.C's internal hard drive is usable again.
    • This hard drive case saved me from a lot of re-downloading and searching for lost files
    • After having purchased a similar product StarTech.com 3.5-Inch USB 2.0 to IDE SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure - Black (UNI3510U2) which did not meet my particular needs, I purchased this enclosure to run lengthy testing of various old hard drives (HDD
    • I need one for older legacy drive compatibility and one for frequently used current modern drives
    • I made some small soft plugs from anti-static styrofoam to wedge the drive up against the Sabrent board to keep it connected
    • Using the enclosure to hold hard drive we're using with VIOS DVR recorder
    • As I have upgraded my computers I find it easier to use these enclosures for the old hard drive instead of moving files to the new computers.
    • If your computer has an external ESATA port, that is the very fastest connection between your computer and a SATA hard drive in this enclosure since this means there is nothing between your computer's SATA drive controller and a SATA hard drive in this enclosure
    • have not lost a hard drive yet.
    • I ended up connecting a SATA cable directly to the hard drive and bypassing the electronics board in the enclosure.
    • With all the screws it took to install the hard drive, you'd think they could afford one more to attack the support bracket
    • Has a bit of fan noise as should be expected, but enclosure is well built and PATA hard drive fits perfectly.
    • The Instructions don't mention that you need to secure the drive in the enclosure with the included screws (they were actually included), nor do the instructions tell you how to take the enclosure apart far enough to do that
    • This is a very robust device and 'saved' my old Sony Vaio hard drive after that computer collapsed, enabling me to retrieve all old files and maintain the Sony drive for occasional use and updating.
    • Mechanically they are easy to install the hard drive
    • I had both an old IDE and SATA Hard drive from old computers that bit the dust before I got the data off
    • I have four old drives and they all work fine in this case
    • Took the hard drive out of a failing computer and easily have all my files!
    • However SATAIII drives are compatible with SATAII, albeit at lower (SATAII) data transfer rates.
    • This is the second one of these Sabent USB 2/ESATA to IDE or SATA external hard drive cases I have purchased.
    • I purchased this item to install an additional hard drive on my new computer as there was not enough space in the CPU housing to mount the additional drive
    • This enclosure is definitely not a good enclosure for switching hard drives quickly, this one is made to have a hard drive stay inside the case
    • Advise to open both sides (to see more clearly), connect cables, and then slide in the hard drive under the front between the 'eaves' so you get more space in the forward position, then you'd get an easier fit
    • The Sabrent 3.5 inch hard drive caddy worked fine
    • The available IDE and SATA connections with the enclosure fan I find to be excellent features for an Hard Drive enclosure.
    • Many of my old hard drives IDE and Sata drives were just laying around until I put my Sabrent to use
    • It will not let me eject the hard drive
    • These external hard drives heat up in a hurry
    • Like many others, I initially thought my beloved 1 TB external HD had kicked the bucket, but it was the power supply in the case housing the hard drive
    • Bottom line with these spescific external hard drive cases , on a scale of 1 to 10 , I would give them a 9
    • This has been a great cradle for using internal hard drives as external hard drives
    • The drive enclosure would be better if it was a quarter inch longer and had a little more space between the fan and hard drive
    • So it does not feel as steady as an internal drive but for an external
    • Worked great no trouble installing drive
    • 2015/03/21: I will have to eat my words after testing a modern drive over the eSATA connection
    • Have been toting this enclosure and its drive to/fram work during the past year, and everything's working as well as it did on day one.
    • I have used external drives for many years but they usually fail after a couple years but this one with an enclosure that had a cooling fan will last much longer
    • Well made, works perfectly, no muss, no fuss, the exact right product for using either your old hard drive or a new one
    • I am in the process of junking an old desktop computer and wanted a cheap and easy way to be able to access the old hard drive.
    • Ordered this one for the capability of using with Sata or IDE hard drives.
    • I was suspicious of that, usually formatting a drive takes a while, but it works fine
    • Needed for a hard drive to make it an external.
    • The top and bottom are plastic and slide out to reveal the place where you attach the screws that hold the hard drive.
    • The reason this is a problem is that I may need to use the case for multiple hard drives and usually swapping drives is a quick thing to do.
    • Keep your data backed up , and you will be Ok when it damages your hard drive
    • A Great design, with a cooling fan to prolong the life of the hard drive
    • The installation of the hard drive was pretty
    • I like the option with the Sabrent to turn off the External hard drive power
    • Pick up the drive and the base falls off due to insufficient friction fit (aka an interference fit)
    • Yeah it makes some noise but seems to cool the 6 yr old hot running drive just fine
    • One thing to note, the box itself says 'Supports hard drives up to 2 TB', both untrue (I'm running a 3TB WD Blue drive in there now, just fine), but also there's no mention in the listing of that potentially helpful (or harmful) piece of information.
    • It's a connection point for a external hard drive
    • The bottom plastic holder is lose and doesn't stay attached to the hard drive enclosure.
    • Just remove the cover, connect a couple of cables to the hard drive, and you are good to go
    • I can read what is on my old hard drives.
    • The case inside is just big enough for a 3.5 inch hard drive
    • It took longer to rip out the hard drive from the old computer than it did to install it in the enclosure case.
    • The unit is ridgid with built in cooling fan so as not to overheat the drive.
    • There was also a piece of foam packed between the fan and the outside of the enclosure which I initially thought might be a filter, but the fan pulls air in the front and blows out the side so it wouldn't filter the air until after it had passed by the hard drive
    • Even at a 75% duty cycle this enclosure keeps hard drives very cool
    • Without the instruction manual I'm sure I would have had a lot of googling to do to see why one of my old hard drives I placed in the enclosure didn't pop up in plug-and-play mode.
    • My 3.5" Hitachi hard drive was a tight fit in this enclosure, yours probably will be too.
    • No way to secure the drive in the case - it slides around
    • Works pretty well its a little tight at the front of the case and can make it tricky getting the hard drive in and
    • I put a 1tb internal hard drive in it, hooked it up with a sata cable and it works as fast as the as the internal hard drives.
    • UPDATE -Not long after I got it working I tried another hard drive.
    • Now i have a portable hard drive
    • My external hard drive was in a metal box with no fan
    • (I purchased this enclosure for the purpose of recording videos and being able to easily swap out hard drives)
    • Before you insert the hard drive into the case, plug in the included power and ribbon cables to the connectors on the drive
    • Highly recommend this particular hard drive enclosure.
    • The potential for a high quality external hard drive enclosure is there, it's the execution that fails
    • Usually, info is printed on the hard drive
    • The directions on how to install the hard drive are pretty clear, but really it is self explanatory.
    • Both of these enclosures, with cooling fans, are virtually silent and keep the old IDE hard drives nice and cool.
    • Would have given five stars but blue light that shows hard drive activity quit working after five minutes of use.
    • It is fairly easy to install the IDE hard drive into the case
    • After I completed the data transfer, I've been using the enclosure and hard drive as a portable back up drive
    • I transferred the WD external HD to the Sabrent enclosure and my PC was then able to recognize the external hard drive of family videos.
    • The fan is a big plus since it keeps the hard drive cool
    • I used a different program and a different enclosure and could backup using Window, so I have to believe that there is some miss communication with this case and Window because I can copy files to the Sabrent hard drive just not a mirror image using Windows 7.
    • The item supports IDE drives which is nice
    • The best way I can describe this enclosure is that it looks and feels like an armored tank for your hard drive.
    • I was able to pull out the old IDE hard drive and recover the data using this Sabrent USB 2.0 enclosure.
    • Our computer mother board died and we bought this to put the hard drive
    • Now, I can dispose of the old hard drives.
    • In addition, it was a little difficult installing the drive
    • I verified that the drive itself was working with another enclosure I've had for
    • There are two LED lights on what I call the front end: a flashing red LED at top (12-18-2013 edit: new drives are blue led only) of the unit indicating when the drive is active (it's off when the drive is inactive); and a solid blue light at the bottom indicating the power is on
    • ESATA does not work with IDE, however the product description on the company website says it does - "Connect any 3.5' IDE/PATA or Serial ATA/SATA Desktop Hard Drive externally to your computer through an available USB 2.0 port or eSata port
    • My thanks to other reviewers who explained how to get a 3.5" SATA hard drive into this extremely tight space - to say that is a tight fit is an understatement.
    • Oh yeah, it also fried my hard drive!
    • Excellent hard drive case
    • I was asked to install another hard drive in an old computer with only one bay, connecter and power tap

    • I also can't figure out how to secure the drive in the enclosure to prevent it from disengaging when moving the enclosure from one pc to another, ie
    • When you put the cover back on it can squeeze the IDE cable and push the hard drive back sliding it out of the SATA plug.

    • The usb port can make the hard drive develop read errors and ultimately cause you to lose all your files
    • The hard drive fits in it perfect and used for additional back up.
    • The guts of the enclosure are very well organized and it is easy to slide in either an IDE or a SATA hard drive, take your pick.
    • It's a hard drive case with a USB interface to IDE protocol
    • As a long time builder of computer systems and lover of technology , I was a little bit hesitant about many of the cases and even the DVR expander units on the market , mainly because hard drives get hot , and the higher the temperatures stays at the unit , the faster a hard disc is likely to fail

    • my experience has been that both, the drive and the enclosure's electronics quickly get too hot and begin to fail
    • Mechanically it's a nightmare with sharp edges everywhere, with stripped screw threads and no method to secure the hard drive inside the case
    • or you're planning to place it where there's traffic, the hard drive won't stay put in the stand against bumps, best to leave it laying flat
    • I suspect the fan blade is contacting the top of the hard drive
    • However, the shipment does not include the standard screws to attach the hard drive to the inner frame.
    • Using an old ide hard drive as external drive and this works perfectly so far
    • Poorly constructed, Sata adapter doesn't connect properly with hard drives, the instructions are incomplete and confusing, the fan hits on either the hard drive or the case regardless of how it's installed (the case arrived with the fan just hanging by its wires)
    • In case you don't know, dust and animal fur are dangerous long term and can kill a hard drive
    • It has deliberately been left on for the past 96 hours and I have seen no problems what-so-ever with either the enclosure's electronics or the hard drive due to over-heating
    • I installed the hard drive but after about 10 seconds it wouldn't power up again.
