Use it more like a straight stand with just enough boom to get over your snare or floor tom or similar items

Not the least expensive mini boom stand (paid $30) but it has a solid base and a good-size arm

The boom compares well to my K&M, the base is stable but compact, and the clutch mechanism feels solid.

This left me with the threaded part still in the base and a useless aluminum rod and boom.
