The back board was folded in order to be shipped, and it broke along the folding lines while I attempted to flatten it

the back board is really cheap, it's thin cardboard folded in three, so you will see the crease.

Did notice that the latest short bookcases are less well made (and not as costly) - substituting stickers for screw plugs, not evenly drilled, unevenly cut cardboard backing, less strong particle board and thinner veneer, BUT they still adequately serve their purpose, especially since you can't get showcase quality at discount prices

The angles do not fit perfectly though, and the first 3 boards are difficult to put together if you are alone.

It can be better if the backward board is thicker.

One board did come a bit dented and another board was a little cracked at the bottom
