It seems like it would not be that much hassle to add guiding dowels and dowel holes for the top and bottom shelves.

Why I'm giving it one star is because you're supposed to just screw the top and bottom shelves into the sides without any guiding dowels, so it's easy for them to be put together misaligned

This is a concern since my child would be getting items off the shelves and then the shelves would come out and fall on her toes
