Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8TB External Desktop Hard Drive Storage + 2mo Adobe CC Photography (STEL8000100)

    • The second one failed after about 3 weeks; windows can find the disk, but can't read it, and the usb hub still works, and the disk is still spinning
    • Overall, I think these hard disks are pretty good for the price
    • The safest bet for anyone looking for a long term solution to hard disk storage is buying a bare drive and enclosure separately so you are better covered if the enclosure fails
    • Second one also noisy, but finished backing up everything, when playing some video files on the HD from my PC, a hard click sound started, next day the drive would not be recognized half of the time on any computer, used several other usb cables hoping it was just a bad cable, and now, can hear it start up, hard click noise and then shut off, its dead, does not appear in the Seagate dashboard software, and its not detected by the SeaTools or Hard Disk Sentinel to even do a basic test, good thing most of the things i backed up i had on the old drives, but i lost about 500GB that was not backed up elsewhere
    • You gamble with any mechanical hard disk you buy.
    • Back then I had started using my 80GB iPod FireWire as a portable hard disk for my data files
    • The first one failed after about 5 months; Windows could no longer find the disk, but the usb hub still works.
    • Disk did not work from the beginning
    • Overall, good hard disk and the front usb slots do support 2x 2.5" external hard disks but there was no info on how fast they would transfer at so the 4 star rating
    • After two months the disk has a failure and I lost all the
    • The hard disk got corrupted suddenly
    • IMHO, you can never have too many backups... unless of course you lose a backup disk
    • Noisy but a good hard disk so far
    • The disk was dead after 2 weeks
    • Noisy but a good hard disk so far
    • The hard drive is an archive hard drive so you won't get very high speeds when backing up into the hard disk but when reading and finding things in it, its fast
    • Overall, good hard disk and the front usb slots do support 2x 2.5" external hard disks but there was no info on how fast they would transfer at so the 4 star rating
    • After hours of reading help pages, finally confirmed from Seagate tool that the disk is not usable
    • The first one failed after about 5 months; Windows could no longer find the disk, but the usb hub still works.
    • Back then I had started using my 80GB iPod FireWire as a portable hard disk for my data files
    • But, seriously, I have had instances when a laptop hard disk failure happened at the same time as two separate external backup drives failed to recover my critical data
    • Both disks suddenly failed after power cycling.
    • Very good disk !!
    • ANY OTHER HARD DISK TO YOUR
    • Overall, I think these hard disks are pretty good for the price
    • It is a very fast hard disk though for something quite cheap
    • Within 25 minutes of transferring data from PC to the 1st of these 2 drives the temperature reached 141 degrees F (Hard Disk Sentinel measurement)
    • This is an Advanced Format disk - it has a physical sector size of 4k (4096 bytes).
    • It is a very fast hard disk though for something quite cheap
    • Good disk, reads 200 writes 130+ when doing backups2
    • It then starts giving me an I/O error message which requires either re-booting the computer or disconnecting and reconnecting the drive
    • Its great i was able to free up my small hard drives
    • I generally got sustained write speeds of 80-90 mb/s which is slow compared to a SSD but more than fast enough for a home NAS.I dropped a star because this specific unit was bad and threw up I/O errors around 2 days after receiving it.
    • Writes to this drive (8TB model) are unbelievably slow (1MB/s) when the drive is set up as HFS+ Encrypted.
    • I took the opportunity to run a AJA disk check (see accompanying photo) and got a respectable 156 MB/s Write and 165 MB
    • Incredible, i have always had s problem with externals
