Having the usb ports on the front of it is a great feature.
One thing I discovered is that transferring files using my POS Dell Inspiron all-in-one PC, it makes a HUGE difference if I connect my old Toshiba 4T external hard drive to the usb port on the front of the Seagate
The USB ports are a great feature, as the new MacBooks don't have regular USB ports!
Other than that, the “back up” feature is crap, numerous times trying to sync my iPhone while plugged in over wifi
The best secondary feature is the two USB ports on the front
First of all, the setup is easy; all you need to do is go to the website and download the appropriate drivers for your computer

Writes to this drive (8TB model) are unbelievably slow (1MB/s) when the drive is set up as HFS+ Encrypted.
Arrived on time, with solid packaging, works fine, easy setup,
Setup seems complicated and viewing backup files hasn't worked for me as yet.
The two USB ports in the front work great and sold me on this drive.
I do like the USB ports on the front so that I can charge my phone or what ever.
I generally got sustained write speeds of 80-90 mb/s which is slow compared to a SSD but more than fast enough for a home NAS.I dropped a star because this specific unit was bad and threw up I/O errors around 2 days after receiving it.
The two extra USB ports were not that important when I ordered it - but now that I have
Although the description listed the ports as USB 3, I was slightly alarmed upon opening the package, and seeing black USB ports (which much more often signify USB 2, as opposed to the blue color that more typically comes with USB 3 ports/connectors)
Having the USB drive work as advertised on the box is important.
Very nice backup device, works automatically as advertised
As good as advertised, this external hard drive is compatible with Time Machine, hence, providing ample space to back up the contents of a computer.
It then starts giving me an I/O error message which requires either re-booting the computer or disconnecting and reconnecting the drive

During the past month, the USB hub of this Seagate has been rock solid for connecting other drives to: no dropped connections and fast
It still draws power and works as a USB hub but the drive is no longer seen by any computer it's plugged into
This is a decent external hub - it has a ton of storage and has the nice USB that is not only for charging capabilities but can also provide additional USB to link to your computer
Edit 2017-04-22: removed problem of the instable usb hub, could be the card reader's fault
These are excellent external drives - very good value for money - very fast - USB hub a bonus
save yourself the headache if you are looking for an external drive for storage
I recommend this for any Mac user looking for an external storage device
So if you're looking for a matching black hub drive this will work wonders for you.
Good looking, find build and design, high speed, stable connection if only use the drive

You can never have enough usb ports, great storage space for my photography and videos
The main reasoning was because of a flimsy USB cord (one of the few rubs I have with Seagate) that can cause the device to be sensitive if moved while using a laptop, hence ejecting the device and subjecting the contents to unnecessary vulnerability
Additionally, I unsuccessfully attempted to initialize the drive with any of the available USB ports on my computer
Gives me super convenient USB ports on my desktop with no need for a separate hub.
While it features the same troublesome USB cord that was aforementioned, so far, the quality has been great without any fear of unwanted ejection.
All in all a great-looking, well-designed, external hard drive that work exceptionally well with the Mac platform at a very competitive price
Drive works perfect and is now backing up my home systems.
I purchased two of these, of which one works adequately and the other has internal software inconsistencies, disallowing proper backup to the external hard drive
While the hard drive works pretty well, Seagate's Mobile back up is simply AWFUL!!
I am very disappointed, the drive failed with no previous indication of issue, just woke up the computer and it no longer worked.
The hard drive is an archive hard drive so you won't get very high speeds when backing up into the hard disk but when reading and finding things in it, its fast
so I can better transfer some of the older data to the new External, is really fast transfer speed when using USB 3.0 from laptop or tower.
The limitation is definitely the write speed to the Seagate on the SMR drive
OverallThis is a solid drive with high capacity and good transfer speeds
Unless you are using it as a transfer drive to share huge files, speed should not be an issue and is negligible

I set this up with Windows Backup and Restore and it works exactly as I expected it to
I may also keep on a separate power circuit just in case these power supplies somehow interact with each other causing the issue I had today.
The outside design and form factor is as good as to be expected for the price and brand

It's also pretty loud compared to my other external HDDs.

, I find them reliable and pretty fast compared to the older USB 2 ones and that's good enough for me.

Delivered on timeSet up was easy (Mac)Only complaint is when the drive is reading and writing its VERY loud and noticeable compared to my other Western Digital drives
After two months the disk has a failure and I lost all the
When I hooked up this drive and tried to run the installation software it says failure unable to reach the internet
Planning on returning the product if I can't get it to work as that's the only thing I really wanted it for.
I set this up with Windows Backup and Restore and it works exactly as I expected it to
During registration of the drive I was offered data recovery plan that provides coverage for "hard drive failure, viruses, software issues, and other problems that can cause data loss
I took the opportunity to run a AJA disk check (see accompanying photo) and got a respectable 156 MB/s Write and 165 MB
with its MD04ACA500 is faster @7200 RPM (206MBps), but gets really hot under full load @ 56+ C, this one never even reached 50C under load
We're talking hundreds of thousands of defective sectors in the hard drive keeps right on operating
But, it seems to be stable, had no bad sectors, runs much quieter than expected based on other reviews, and costs a lot less than the competition so I can live with the lack of speed.
T storageWorks great on Apple Products (iMac and Mac)Easy to use software toolsI BOUGHT TWO

It takes a bit of concentration to ignore all the clicking and clacking noise coming from this drive.
The size is fairly compact, a bit smaller than a 350-page paperback book, and I love that it doubles as a hub with two usb ports in the front, and not in the more inconvenient back, thereby more than making up for the usb port it takes up

Definitely a bit bulky for a external hard drive but works great
Overall, good hard disk and the front usb slots do support 2x 2.5" external hard disks but there was no info on how fast they would transfer at so the 4 star rating

Back then I had started using my 80GB iPod FireWire as a portable hard disk for my data files
It is a very fast hard disk though for something quite cheap
Then it makes even louder clicking sounds when starts to read/write
with its MD04ACA500 is faster @7200 RPM (206MBps), but gets really hot under full load @ 56+ C, this one never even reached 50C under load
Its great i was able to free up my small hard drives
Now i'm worried the first one will die on me also every time it makes a loud click when reading files, so i haven't gotten rid of my old hard drives and hoping it was just one of them that was bad

I cannot recommend the drive, because of this, unless a vibrating/buzzing noise is not a problem for you.
This hub is smaller than most I have seen and quiet, with no loud annoying fan noise
Hard drive makes really loud noises and became corrupted within 2 weeks of using it and no matter how many times I run first aid I still receive this error
and I could hear a loud grinding noise coming from inside

I know that I’ve gotten used to solid-state drives in most of my devices, but the sounds the drive is making are a minor concern to me.
No problems at all, still works (and sounds, thumpety thump) like it has from the start
It look like it is totally dead except for some hissing sound when you put your ear close to the drive
and I think most people have moved to SSDs for installed apps like games at this point anyways
So many people complain about lost data because their drive failed
Out of the 62 reviews that people took the time to publish, 12 of them were about lost data, failing drives that failed just after the warranty expired, people that lost pictures or irreplaceable data, or backups.
I don't see why people have issues with these hard drives, I've never had any issues with it and it was plug and play for my MAC
At first it was a bit skeptical on using it because I read some of the reviews and a few people said that it wouldn't work with an Xbox One with
