The design is nice, it definitely seems solid and it's an attractive looking unit, but in the end, the fact is this product, despite it's "military grade" this and that failed me out of the box

Lastly, the write speed is slower then other HDs I've used such the Western Digital Passport.

instruction manual print is so small u cant read it.after several emails and countless hours of time i finally got an email saying their software is flawed and that maybe in Dec they will get it fixed and then i will be able to transfer files automatically not have to make my own folders etc to put it in

I was really looking forward to getting the Silicon Power Rugged Armor A80 External hard drive.

Amazing as to why those name brands do not offer one like this.

I've lost valuable data on other portable HD's which stopped working for no reason at all - however, this Armor A80 has been dropped several times and still works like a charm.

It uses a standard USB, not the mini or micro, which seems to be a bit more durable on the cable when abusing this drive, and comes with two cables, a 3 ft cable, and a little 3" cable that is fitted into the side of the drive, so if you're in a pinch and can't find the longer one, you can make do

As soon as I got this bad boy out of the box and made a few backups, my dog knocked it off the table, about a 3 ft drop.

The digital image drive began not working 4 weeks but intermittently sputtered to life

Since no drive is fail safe, I back this up to our main computer every week as I would never want to have all my images only in one place

It stayed as it is (no extra protective case) in my backpack while trekking through the Himalayas, through airports, tossed in and on and out of dirty, dusty, and muddy buses, daily usage in the deserts and during rainstorms, and weeks in huts on beaches
