If you are using this microphone and can keep it still and make sure that you don't bump anything then go for the SM7B because the sound quality is better

The quality of vocal recordings that I've gotten with this mic paired with a good preamp are far better than what I was getting with my MXL condenser (even with a decent preamp), and I'd say it's perfect for someone (like me) who isn't exactly a novice but isn't an expert either.

I’m not sure what the less than 5 star ratings are referring to (or what their set up is), but I produce for a podcast that is in the top 0.05%, and we have to do VERY little if anything extra to achieve excellent sound quality from these mics

So I tested out all microphones and ended up liking the PR40 the best because it picked up little vibrations with the PRSM shockmount and it rejected off-axis sounds while having SLIGHTLY worst sound quality

So I am a big fan of the SM57 Microphone as a vocal mic due to its ease of recording and good sound quality

might seem intimidating or hard to set up but its very very simple and you will never regret the quality of this microphone, All you need to get started (opinion) is the Microphone its self, Cloud lifter, 2 sets of XLR cables and a scarlet interface ( I choose the 2i2 version)

Best quality for money spent

One of the best features is it doesn’t pick up background noise and being a Voice Over/ Narrator that is a very important quality that is needed.

I bought this mic about a month ago and my experience with it has been amazing!The mic is built very nicely and feels very solid, the sound quality is very nice, but the amount of background noise i was able to eliminate is why i love it, and also how professional it sounds, it's a must have for someone doing podcasts or streaming!!

although I was able to get the mic loud enough, the quality didn't knock me

You will need a preamp, though, to get a clean recording (I recommend a Fethead as it connects directly onto the microphone, as opposed to a Cloudlifter where you need two cables)

like me using a desktop mic pre or small Mackie, etc, I highly recommend using a Cloudlifter and quality audio cables with this mic (as well as with the RE-20).

If you're serious about getting your vocals to sound great, and have the money to spend I would highly recommend this over a cheaper mic as it will save money on upgrading in the future.

Whether you pick the Shure or the EV we with experience know that both sound as good as or better than condensers costing many times as much money for spoken word.

It might not be the most bassy sounding mic, but this baby is as clear and present as you can come across
