    Shure SRH840 Professional Monitoring Headphones

    • If you like classical music - where there is a huge variance in dynamics (e.g. loudness
    • (I'm not a big fan of bass, but I do enjoy dance and trance music
    • If you just want a really fun music listening headphone, take the m50.
    • Musical detail is a wonderful thing but if you can only listen to a small population of well recorded music (because anything less requires pain killers) what's the point.
    • Cons:-Weight, these are a bit too heavy and maybe some people might find that a deal-breaker, but so far I have had no issue with that, buy I might be biased on how good music sounds that I disregard any negative thoughts on this
    • After using Bose QC2 to deal with a noisy work environment for 3 months(HVAC rattles and roars like a subway), I have elected totrade their amazing but unnatural noise cancellationfor better music reproduction by the SRH840.June 10, 2011 update:The SRH840 failed (hinge pulled out of headband; basically held togetherby double-sided adhesive strip), but Shure replaced with new
    • Not the most adventurous music choices, but I'm sure a lot of you readers will be in the same position
    • Cons:-Weight, these are a bit too heavy and maybe some people might find that a deal-breaker, but so far I have had no issue with that, buy I might be biased on how good music sounds that I disregard any negative thoughts on this
    • I was able to hear subtleties of sound, from instrumental music to movie effects, at a reasonable volume
    • That said, the 840s seem to have a slightly richer sound, particularly for quiet music
    • You really need a lounge chair to just recline in and relax motionless to appreciate music with these cans, otherwise it's a bother
    • After doing research for 2 months or so I decided to get this headphones, mostly for gaming (PS3) and listening music on my computer (iMac) and boy where they worth it, I am not going to get to specifics like many of the other reviews, I'm just going to say that I'm a picky person when it comes to electronics or gadgets, and this headphones are built with quality, sound precision, and good price
    • The Sennheisers sounded more distant i.e. at what sounded like the same volume I would have to expend more energy to hear the music through the Sennheisers however the Shures were more relaxing making the music easier to enjoy, more accessible.
    • However when I went to test some more instrumental music, the Shure's really shined (haha!)
    • they are a good reference for what the sound signature would be like hearing the music that the mastering engineer heard in the studio
    • Do yourself a favor and enjoy your music with a pair of those you'll never regret it!
    • I hesitated a lot and looked around a lot for the earphones that I thought would have the most accurate representation of what the music or any type of sound should sound like
    • They don't stay on if you are flinging your head around and seem to be meant more for sitting and enjoying your music rather than walking around the street with these on
    • I'm not an audiophile or a music professional, but I do enjoy music (thus the purchase)
    • Listening to some of my favorite albums with these headphones (connected to my PC through an M-Audio fast-track pro USB 2.0), I swear, I can hear subtle layers and nuances that I have never heard before.
