It definitely looks pretty and the ability to upgrade units and then changing the look of them is nice, but the game itself lacks character.

I like the ability to terraform the landscape and the planetary resources are new and different.

There are varied and interesting map enhancements, and the unique units are interesting enough (but do not have enough unique abilities to make the anything other than better units), and obviously the setting is something that is not done well enough
