I really loved Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire, but this was a huge letdown.
I prefer the older "Alpha Centauri", which is more playable.
Probably the most beautiful of all the games in the series, "Civilization", it is difficult to name a new subspecies of the series, most likely I would say about this game as a reincarnation of good old "Alpha Centauri" (fans will remember this game from Sid Meier)
VERY much like the old game "Alpha Centauri" -- have always wanted to get a copy of that game but this one is even better...

There are varied and interesting map enhancements, and the unique units are interesting enough (but do not have enough unique abilities to make the anything other than better units), and obviously the setting is something that is not done well enough
I like the ability to terraform the landscape and the planetary resources are new and different.
It definitely looks pretty and the ability to upgrade units and then changing the look of them is nice, but the game itself lacks character.

The fact that individual units can't really become powerful takes away a level of interest that was present in prior versions

Take advantage of trade routes to have ample resources to support units and buildings.

Not as good as Civilization 5, but still a very fun game where you can spend hours of your time
This is a good game, with the classic Civilization style play
son watched me play this one for about 15 minutes and told me the old Civilization was better
If you like previous civilizations then chance is you will like this one as well.
I want to compare my experience to Civ 3 (the best Civilization of all time IMO), because after I tried playing 4 for a while I never quite had as good of an experience playing a Civilization again
Overall: The opening sequences promises the universe, the game play is good, but the game flavor is bland because of significant details, such as video and great wonder visuals.
The wonders were okay, with interesting background stories, but lacked animation
Remember Alpha Centauri has VIDEOS for EACH great wonder and it was made DECADES ago! What's really odd about this one is the great wonder's don't seem to have much
Even Civ I showed you what your Great Wonder looked like inside your city.
