Reviews around fun (4.53 of 5)

  • If you're clever enough, you can change your government willingly by engineering revolutions based on playing with taxes and various buildings.-Naval battles are extremely detailed and fun, although managing larger fleets during a battle (I'd say >5-6 ships) is very difficult.-Trade is much more important, and it's fun to steal from enemy trade routes (on land or
  • Online or single player battles are great fun as well, and I love being able to control infantry, cavalry, and artillery in an intricate dance of death to defeat my opponent
  • Gamers may cheer newer graphics, but fun gameplay and game stability should be more important
  • It's pretty fun, the battles are great though it can get a little repetitive if you play for long lengths of time
  • The game is well thought out and overall is a fun and enjoyable war game not too difficult to control or overwhelming to manage.

Reviews around assembly (4.22 of 5)

  • Alliances are made and then ignored as you sit back and watch a country that just allied with you attack one of your settlements on the very next turn
  • You can make awesome games, what happened?Creative assembly has been really hit or miss.
  • As a long time fan of the Total War series, I feel bad about all the negativity being directed at Creative Assembly
  • SEGA, CREATIVE ASSEMBLY and STEAM have betrayed that trust
  • I thought Creative Assembly to be a higher class of game developer than this, but it seems no longer

Reviews around computer (4.00 of 5)

  • After loading the game, I tried starting the game and it caused my computer to hard crash, with the blue screen of death.
  • but i'll never know because it crashed my computer when I tried to install it.
  • You need a nice computer because the graphics are AMAZING
  • The game does require a good computer to play, I can barely get medium settings on my laptop that I brought to college, even though it is quite a good laptop
  • It is an older game, so it can bug up a newer computer, but works well with the xp

Reviews around strategy (3.99 of 5)

  • If you're into grand strategy and still like to play the tactical battles, this is your game.
  • I love a good strategy game, and earlier Total War games gave me hours (days?) of fun
  • Great download keeps in line with the total war collection of great strategy games
  • Alliances are made and then ignored as you sit back and watch a country that just allied with you attack one of your settlements on the very next turn
  • In fact you will lose them as they get stuck on everything

Reviews around money (3.72 of 5)

  • I paid good money to purchase a game that was supposed to be SINGLE player as well as multiplayer.
  • STEAM could not (would not) do anything but the seller refunded my money
  • I actually went out and scraped up enough money to buy a computer that could handle this game and I definitely do not regret it one bit.
  • First -- don't waste the extra money on that edition, it's a scam.
  • this game is worth the money and worth the long download time.

Reviews around campaign (3.54 of 5)

  • Alliances are made and then ignored as you sit back and watch a country that just allied with you attack one of your settlements on the very next turn
  • get medieval tw (not II), & practice taking the castle before you have to in Grand Campaign
  • As for the game, I've played through the grand campaign completely about twice
  • Alliances are made and then ignored as you sit back and watch a country that just allied with you attack one of your settlements on the very next turn

Reviews around war (3.49 of 5)

  • Empire total war has many problems as in other comments, sea battles on the campain are impossible to win because it seems the pirates alaways have twice as many ships as you
  • Empire Total war is unrealistic, laggy, glitched, and contains faulty AI
  • The fact remains however that Empire Total War is plagued by bugs and incomplete features
  • On the realistic conditions of commanding a army in the field, this total war was a fail
  • All in all it's not as good as old rome total war, but fun to play.

Reviews around gameplay (3.28 of 5)

  • Alliances are made and then ignored as you sit back and watch a country that just allied with you attack one of your settlements on the very next turn
  • The gameplay itself is incredible, the game mechanics smothly adapting to gunpowder age units
  • Finally, their is one strange gameplay problem I have had with siege battles
  • Alliances are made and then ignored as you sit back and watch a country that just allied with you attack one of your settlements on the very next turn
  • Steam makes the game almost impossible to play and the gameplay itself just isn't fun

Reviews around battle (3.20 of 5)

  • The AI still behaves as if battles have a magical time-limit, even when you turn the time-limit off
  • I think if you enjoy the battles more than myself you can get a lot more replay out of this game
  • But the real winner in my book about this game is the naval battles
  • The battles however, are a little unrealistic because the men die way too fast and some of the cannon shots are way too destructive for this time period
  • The downside; battles take a long time to load no matter what your system specs.

Reviews around empire (2.28 of 5)

  • The color and pageantry of warfare in this age lends itself well to gaming (ask any old-time wargamer), and E
  • too many nations and the freaking Ottoman Empire (which is the longest wait of all AI controlled nations) has like over 100 boats in the sea and god knows how many land units it has
  • Empire disappoints because of terrible AI, bland graphics and units, and the atrocity of forcing gamers to use Steam

Reviews around unit (2.02 of 5)

  • Additionally, assuming that they can successfully get onto the walls, your units will have a difficult time fighting enemy AI in melee while on the walls.
  • It does use artillery to soften up the fortress to create some holes, but with some well placed units you can defend your fortification even if you are vastly outnumbered
  • Also this game does a great job of making you not treat your units like fodder.
  • i enjoy that units can take cover in buildings and behind walls and the like
  • Assuming your units are winning a melee battle, they will often get an enemy unit down to two to three men, only to continually "knock down" enemy units without actually killing them.

Reviews around review (2.01 of 5)

  • I was inclined to not purchase the game to start with seeing all of the negative reviews but looking into
  • I have a growing suspicion that Sega paid some of the big gaming web sites for positive reviews
  • Don't listen to the negative reviews if you are thinking about buying this game!

Reviews around ship (1.98 of 5)

  • This is exacerbated on a large scale and I have found my ships to incur unnecessary damage as they crash into each other on more than one occasion
  • While they aren't as robust as I would like and maneuvering some ships is like herding cats, it's still very fun.
  • Same thing for ships, taking a depleted ship and stacking it with another depleted ship to reinforce real quick will lead to a CRASH
  • You can control the ships on a sea map just like the armies on a land map
  • AI can't hold battle formations for long even if their ships have range accuracy advantage

Reviews around general (1.85 of 5)

  • My stupifaction can be imagined when, while attacking a enemy town with huge numerical superiority, the enemy sneaked a cavalry around behind me, killing my general! But, the bad must be mentioned.
  • Alliances are made and then ignored as you sit back and watch a country that just allied with you attack one of your settlements on the very next turn
  • "We're stupid" in which they send one general with a tiny little force of some cavalry and peasants to pillage my lands, unimpeded for several turns since my forces literally have to CHASE them around the map
  • First battle I got in the AI killed its own general right at the start with its own cannons

Reviews around ai (1.76 of 5)

  • Of course, if you can get beyond the walls then the AI works fine like in field battles, but assaulting walls without artillery is not recommended.
  • The AI is also still extremely dumb, even dumber than before.
  • Of course, if you can get beyond the walls then the AI works fine like in field battles, but assaulting walls without artillery is not recommended.

Reviews around steam (1.71 of 5)

Reviews around drm (1.61 of 5)

  • But, with the increasingly absurd DRM, it just is not worth it
  • But really, I have the same philosophical issue most of the other reviewers have with the intrusive, mandatory DRM
  • Tried to load this game but was forced to accept having a very intrusive DRM and marketing tool loaded onto my system called STEAM
  • I really hate steam and drm they should tell up front you are renting a game license not print internet connection required for activation in small print on the back
  • Just enjoy M

Reviews around fort (1.00 of 5)

  • Poor path finding for the ai during battle such as entering/exiting a building, assaulting/defending a fort, units unable to take the most obvious and shortest path and taking the longest route
  • It is so easy to fool AI attacking your fort that modders came out with the mod that removes all forts from the game
  • To sum it up: Enemy will either try to attack your fort with mounted units only, in which case you just let them come close to the walls and pulverize with cannons and musket fire, or if they are blessed with infantry, those lads will use Batman's grappling hooks and climb the walls Spiderman style
  • When attacking a fort, your AI is somewhat incompetent at assaulting walls (unlike in Rome: Total War)
  • Sieges are not quite as tedious as before, as the AI will actually move to attack your fort.

Reviews around hook (1.00 of 5)

  • But, as they start retreating back down the grappling hooks, some of them will stand right next to your troops and have a little chat with your men
  • If you choose not to destroy a wall with artillery, your only other option is to assault the wall with troops by having them throw grappling hooks onto the wall and scaling the wall themselves.
  • Instead of crawling up the rope of the grappling hooks, it will look as if they are trying to jump from one rope to another
  • If you're defending, the enemy just runs up, throws some grappling hooks, and clambers up the fortifications walls where you'll duke it out melee style
  • It's pretty cool seeing your men throw grappling hooks on another ship in order to pull it close for boarding
