SilverStone Technology Home Theater Computer Case with Aluminum Front Panel for E-ATX/ATX/Micro-ATX Motherboards GD08B

    • Also, the integrated hot swap tray is a little flimsy
    • I fitted this case with a micro-ITX MOBO, Sentey PS, i5 Skylake CPU, 16GB RAM, and used the 5.25 slot for a hot-swap SSD drive
    • You can easily install six 3.5: HDDs with 2 DVD/Bluray optical drives, a card reader, a hot swap bay, and dual video cards
    • I have have especially bad luck with WD 2TB drives on several different hot-swap systems, including these
    • The HDD cage also features a pre-wired hot-swap SATA that I can't see much point in.
    • The reason that the interior is so cramped is the hot-swap HDD module
    • I wish there was a solution to reduce the glare.- one of the hot swap bays indicator light isn't working at all
    • I made sure and spent weeks planning the correct equipment for every aspect of the build but found that the two hot swap bays are pretty much
    • 2 of the 3.5" drives go in the hot swap bays, 1 of the 3.5" drives goes on the underside of the optical drive bracket, and 1 of the 3.5" drives plus the 2.5" drive go on the hard drive bracket (which is attached to the hot swap bays).
    • I will say that the config around the hot swap drives is a bit funky and routing cables from the power supply around that area in particular can be
    • External 3.5" hot-swap baysGood CoolingQuiet fans (Using MOBO to control speed - splitter cable required to run all 3 fans this way from my 2 mobo connectors)LooksBuild QualityCons
    • I'm not sure if this won't cause me trouble in the future- the hot swap cage is the most painful part to deal with while installing
    • Remember to use AHCI (Advanced Power Management for Hard Drives "Hot-swap" and do not use IDE in the BIOS
    • The GD06 is nicer looking, with the curves and the drop down door, but it was a much harder build than the GD05, as the GD06 has the hot-swap HDD bays and required a very short PSU (I used a SilverStone short PSU) placed upside down
    • (You should not make a hot swap drive your OS for obvious reasons--but then, maybe you want to!
    • Don't just think HTPC when you are looking at these they make just about the best SERVER enclosures I have come across (assuming you do not need hot swap capabilities on local system)
    • The 2x hot-swap drive bays were catching on the case and took a fair amount of playing with to get the doors to stay shut
    • 2x Hot-Swap Drive Bay, 3x120
    • NEVER ACTUALLY DO A HOT SWAP
    • If you choose the modular, you will have to be very careful as there is no clearance between the hot swap HDD racks and the modular connections.
    • The reason I am giving it two stars is because along with the idea of the locking door, I was greatly looking forward to the hot swap bays in the front.
    • The reason that the interior is so cramped is the hot-swap HDD module
    • Their power supply is 150mm which is smaller and allows just enough space for the hot-swap SATA-data & SATA-power cables to make the necessary bend to connect to the Mini-ATX motherboard
    • I drilled a hole on that side to add a screw to my hot-swap 3.5" drive tray
    • The hot swap drives are a nice feature
    • But once finished, you have a sweet case that has two hot-swap bays in the front
    • I chose to use a SSD for the OS which screws in on top of the hot swap drive frame
    • Even if you do not intend to use the hot-swap bays as regular drive bays, you will still need AHCI for external USB dock stations
    • For some reason I can't recall, I had to leave the front cover the hot swap bays.
    • Have mine connected with 2x 2TB drives and the hot swap seems to work well.
    • I will say, though, that replacing drives is a pain compared to hot swap bays.
    • There was only one problem, one of the hot swap bay leds does not illuminate.
    • especially the front door with the cool finishing.+ room for graphics card up to 11 inches (although I'd recommend a GPU of 10 inches or less since that last inch is all what you have left in this case for cable management!)+ hot swap drive bays making life easier to add HDDs without having to go through the painful process of openning the case and installing the drive internally.cons:- annoying blue led light around the power button
    • This case has two hot swap-able bays that are very chinsy
    • This case will support a beast of a card but it will also sacrifice a lot of room for cables, as well as, at least, one of the 3.5 drive spaces
