I haven't noticed the upscaling, but it seems to be a dependable, rugged Blu-ray player, and the "smart" features are a real plus

I passed on Panasonic for a 4K player and went with Sony again only to find all my foreign blu-ray bonus features are lost again.

Like others have said, this thing is a no frills inexpensive Blu-ray player, it looks cheap and feels cheap, there may be one tiny light on the front indicating it has power

Now, on to more important issues for this new S6500: performance is very high for Blu-Ray (regular and 3D), for older DVDs as well as for streaming (Amazon Prime)

Its fast, it works as it should, doesn't freeze up, my wife loves how easy to operate it is and the netflix button is a great option, we are very pleased
