Pretty impressive but not the very best image or sound quality as my prior Blu-Ray player.
Amazon streaming works only intermittently - bizarrely, the controls stop working even though the movie continues to stream beautifully, with good and clear image and sound.
Its compatible alright, but so slow as the be unusable
Here I can brighten my image (especially useful when displaying 3D images which are darkened by 3D shutter glasses) or modify brightness and contrast on older, low quality DVDs
Pretty impressive but not the very best image or sound quality as my prior Blu-Ray player.
I was hoping for a great image quality, but everything from Blu-ray to terrible streaming is what it does.
As a whole it's so easy to work with this product, everything is well taken care of, and the quality of picture and sound you get from this Blu-ray player is the best in my opinion.
Good quality Blu-ray player that loads apps and movies quickly
Another poster said that 'eventually' the image quality improves during playback -- I played many minutes and did not experience this -- nor would I be willing to lose many minutes of shows to unwatchable video quality
It is very easy to set up, it seems to be made from poor quality material but it is solid and sturdy!!
There is a dedicated Netflix button that brings you right to that app and a Favorites button for which you can assign favorite apps
Good app switching Works well with paired Sony TVCons:
I am not a big Sony fan after my last Sony Blu-Ray lasted only a short while, but I liked what I saw in the reviews, especially the internet connectivity and the inclusion of the Berlin Philharmonic app. as well as the popular apps, Amazon and Netflix, etc.
Other apps have also crashed it and made it completely unresponsive.
The apps that it does have works well Netflix, Amazon etc, pretty good buffering time and function.
I especially like the USB capabilities where I can put video recordings I shoot with my camera on a 2TB hard drive, USB them into this player and watch them on my TV (up-converted in resolution to at least 1080P I might add).
Today's current dual-layer Blu-ray disc can only hold 50 gigabytes - as such, there is no official physical storage medium, other than a standard hard drive that can hold TRUE 4K-UHD feature length content, so don't confuse today's DVD's as anything that approaches what is possible.
Connected a hard drive with videos and it plays them fine.
It is 3-D capable, which is one of the first things I tried and was very impressed
then I guess there will be NOTHING to play 3-d Blu-rays as the studios seem to be abandoning us 3-d lovers
The 3-d works well and I dwelling access to streaming sires is very good.
It freezes every day to the point where unplugging and plugging the device has become second nature
Now, on to more important issues for this new S6500: performance is very high for Blu-Ray (regular and 3D), for older DVDs as well as for streaming (Amazon Prime)
I have had 3 that gave disk errors the day they were unpacked so watch out!
Super price and quality, 3-D, 4K ready, great picture, and available apps...
My hope is the problem is the batteries that came with the remote - they are cheapies but even so should last longer than a month.
My hope is the new batteries will solve the problem in which case this review will be devoted to the crappy batteries manufacturers always included with new gear.
Two weeks out of warranty, it burned up, or as good as.
Its fast, it works as it should, doesn't freeze up, my wife loves how easy to operate it is and the netflix button is a great option, we are very pleased
So, I put fresh, premium batteries in the remote, things seem to be fine but I will continue to monitor performance.
do not like the fact that there are no controls on the front and the on light is barely visible
Hated the fact that it played the first DVD for all of about 10 minutes and then began to alternately freeze and skip thru the movie, making it unwatchable.

For some strange reason, the player requires my password each time it is turned on.
it looks awful at “4k/24p” with a DVD with these two settings the other way for some strange reason

It uses the Opera web browser, which for some unknown reason has quit incorporating Flash in its Linux version.
I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years and this was the first time calling support where I couldn't talk to someone who speaks English
So disappointed in Sony.. you have definitely made some unhappy customers with that play!!
Sony used to be known for quality and good customer service.
We ended up using it one more time and it did not work did not connect to the internet at all and sony customer service never offer me a solution they never replace, upgrade or return our money so do not buy SONY products at all they have a terrible customer service everything happened since march and event the lady at customer service Offended me by saying i wanted a brand new and different model free of charge and also that it was fair and deserve to be in this situation
Not real thrilled that it does not have any lights not even a power light and its a tad slow bringing up my movie list from my external drive.
There's minor control over your tv with the BD player remote as well, just power, input, and volume, not a
It seems to lose the ability to connect to the gateway at random intervals, and then requires multiple reboots/ hard power-pull resets to get back to happy
But BD-R and DVD-R work fine
Ok, will improve the content level of this later, but one thong RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX that ticks me off is YMTHE STUPID POWER CORD HAS A POWER SUPPLY ADAPTER ON IT.INSTEAD OF
You can even use the built-in Opera browser to scour the internet, though this is a pretty clunky process
Since this update was installed a few months ago, the player has operated flawlessly in all situations (other than the irritating network connection process)
In addition, the process itself is VERY slow -- as it in I had to leave it running overnight before it finally exited the update screen
I also have an Amazon Fire TV which is definitely more responsive and smoother, but the Fire TV is famous for having faster processing than other streamers
Changes can be stored under Custom1&2 settings (as long as you DO NOT have 4K resolution output set when you initially set-up your player).Bottom line: If you can get passed the least attractive AV design to come out of SONY, a very problematic startup/setup process, the S6500 is a very high
But the monster that is Sony has screwed the people they are probably trying to please the most yet again - the movie collector
Some people complain about having to purchase a new cable, but think about it; The faster the car you drive, the better the road you want
Many people have this issue and Sony knows about it but refuses to issue an update to its software.
There are so many people on the phone the wait times are crazy
