I was told by the tech support I should try to download the firmware onto either a flashdrive or burn it to a CD (both of which had enough space and were empty apart from the .RUF files for the player)

Based on experience with other Samsung blu-ray players which died within a year and had the same terrible customer service, I just took advantage of the Oppo 93 pre-release offer and expect to put which ever player Samsung decides to send back on eBay.

Samsung should put a label on it so customers don't confuse the film for scratches and in turn hurt amazon with all of the replacements they have to give out because of this little issue.
