Find one used if you have an older TV set and enjoy Blu Ray discs.

The 4:3 aspect ratio makes it perfect for watching the classic films and Tv shows I enjoy most

I haven't used the internet apps because I already had an apple tv and smart tv with wifi

next, DVD upconversion was pretty good, picture quality slightly better than the Samsung.

Bought this unit from a Costco, chancing it, after reading many bad reviews, mostly about slow streaming or other network issues

Final verdict: If you want a fast Blu-ray player that can stream Pandora, Slacker Radio, YouTube, HuluPlus, and many other free streaming sites except Netflix, this may be the player for you.

Most other blu-ray units cost more, or you could spend a minimum of $50 for a dedicated streaming device like a Roku and not have a blu-ray player (and have an additional piece of equipment).

This is a nice device, and since it has RCA component (Yellow, Red, White) jacks on the back, it can be used with older TVs.

Overall, it's a great device with outstanding performance, the best bang for your buck right now in the market

If connection speed isn't fast enough, the device won't work well and may not connect at all even if diagnostics tells you everything is fine.

The update broke the unit's ability to autodetect my router's IP address and, because customizing the IP and DNS addresses are not separable, I and a whole chain of Sony support levels have been unable to make the unit work with the dynamic DNS router with which it worked just fine before the update

Sony really wasn't helpful in resolving the issue and basically blamed the internet provider.

SONY, FIX YOUR BLUNDERS!

The Sony support site is ambiguous, giving instructions for setting up a server and such

Sony hasn't been progressive in many years, and we were pleasantly surprised with both the TV and blu-ray player.

I don't know if the bad reviews are due to the prejudice against the big-box stores or what, but before you make your decision, read the mostly positive reviews of the S185 and then decide for yourself

I bought this at Costco, even after reading some of the negative reviews

I had the same issues as previous reviewers with Netflix (did not load properly more often than it did load), but did some research on Sony's website as well as other reviews of Sony Blu-Ray players and came up with this "fix" to the wired set-up to make Netflix run better.
