I'm still learning but the neat thing about it is that the Auto settings make pretty good pictures.

The camera still takes pictures, but no flash capability and the aggravating error message in the middle of the viewfinder/screen.

We like it because it fits that middle ground between a mobile phone camera (which is terrible in certain conditions) and a large Digital SLR, which can be too bulky and cumbersome to lug around, and it takes very good pictures with many features for such a small handheld camera.
