Handles night shots (where the flash fills you in, but gets the display/architecture/fountain) behind you in nice lighting very well.
The DSC HX80 is feature-rich, from the pop-up viewfinder (great for bright light when you can't see the screen) and flash to the articulating screen (useful for selfies or covert shots when people think you aren't using it) to a host of manual and programmable settings, and then some.
I'm disappointed the camera does not come with a battery charger included - I purchased an extra set of batteries with charger to solve that problem). All in all, a nice light long-zoom point-and-shoot
But, the reality is, the picture quality is very poor in all but the brightest lighting.
Takes great closeups for my on-line store, and good interior low-light shots for inside my rentals
This camera does have some good features such as the super zoom and a view finder
Zoom is really good - but it would be worthless in this case without a view finder.
Like its:Ability to take 2 pictures automatically regular and HDR so one of 2 always good when bad conditionOptical zoom 30 is very useful, Id be like more
Other than that, the zoom is fantastic and picture quality very fine
The zoom is overkill and makes it heavy, but the pictures are super clear and the video is sharp too.
I was looking for a point and shoot that was lightweight...easy to use and not too expensive.
I have a larger SONY (A6000) but enjoy the point and shoot of this one
are many more features that I could go on about this neat little point and shoot, just check out the spec sheets.
They're located in a way that makes it pretty impossible to stick fluff to, which is something I see a lot of people do to mitigate wind noises when shooting videos
I found that when you have to use the panoramic setting, sometimes switching from 'right' to 'up' and flipping your camera vertically and then shoot will give you the best shot if the subject like a canyon wall or building is tall and long
Maybe there's a way to disable these buttons, but I have not found it so far.
Despite its small size, it feels good in my hands and the buttons are easy to operate
All the other negative reviews are kind of wanky...the camera takes great pictures for the price point, it's small and if people don't like small buttons don't buy a small camera
Only complaint so far, while shooting it's very easy to 'bump' a button on the back and change a setting, especially if wearing gloves.
I am having trouble hitting the wrong small buttons accidentally

The high-quality lens and images rivaled our much more expensive DSLR, and the Sony was easier to use during our trip to Madagascar
Sure, it's not as fast/clear/bright as a much larger DSLR, but I can't stick that type of camera in a pocket while hiking through rough terrain and carrying a binocular and backpack (and possibly hiking poles).
With the tiny small sensor in the HX80 - will photos be as clear as a DSLR with a $2000 lens?
